We do prefer to stay in hotels with style -so we have chosen Glendower for the one night stay in Nuwara Eliya.
Our impression is, that the owner is an investment group- who cares more on profit/loss results, rather than having the hotel education.
The place indeed has a history, and quite pity not keeping it in shape.
Guess, that the last renovation happened 30 years ago.
In spite of good efforts of the staffs – the hotel may deteriorate its’ value, if it is going to keep up like this.

Room Tip: Choose an other hotel - until they renovate it

Charged nearly $100, quoted lower price but then added taxes etc. Really not worth that amount, worse hotel in Sri Lanka for us. Room was off the lobby and more like a Blackpool b&b from the 60s than $100 hotel. Management were greedy and inflexible (we needed to travel back to Colombo early and wanted to release our booking (at noon so plenty time resell) but manager refused, town was sold out as holiday period and they would have sold the room easily - people enquired while we were in the lobby.

I spent one night there and would not recommend it at all. Price is high, the rooms are small and very close to the lobby and the restaurant and the street so it’s impossible to have an afternoon rest in your room with all the noise coming from outside.

Good location in the centre of Nuwara Eliya. Room was clean but felt a little dated and overall maybe over priced for what it is. The bar and snooker room were a welcome quirk as we battled heavy rains.

Staff great.

This is a charming and delightful hotel that has attention to detail. It's so cozy. The bar is lovely and you can play pool upstairs. Order the Chicken Kiev, have a couple of cocktails and play pool.

For breakfast, choose between the gardens or the restaurant.

Perfect location.

Have them pack you a lunch for the day and then enjoy the environs. Try the chocolate and strawberries at Adma https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g608524-d2238242-Reviews-Adma_Agro_fresh_strawberry_foods_Nuwara_Eliya_Sri_Lanka-Nuwara_Eliya_Central_Prov.html
