“Simply Paradise!”
Reviewed 29 August 2012

After a 4 night stay in Sri Lanka (Also beautiful), we spent the remainder 10 nights of our honeymoon on Kuramathi island! WOW!
We arrived by speed boat which was a surprising 90 minute transfer but a great way to see some of the neighbouring islands. When we arrived at the island we were blown away by the colour of the sea, the reception, cold towels and a lovely drink.

After a 10 minute chat with our Kuoni rep, we were off on the buggy to our Deluxe Beach Villa (no. 354). It was the penultimate villa beofre the quiet tip of the island. The villa was bigger than we expected with a huge 4 poster bed. The bathroom was more than adequate and we also had an outdoor shower (as well as an indoor one) which was useful for when we were covered in sand. The best bit was the view out of the back patio doors- AMAZING! The beach and the sea were right there, what a view. Would highly recommend this particular villa.

It was so quiet at this end of the island yet only a short walk to the reception, main restaurant and bar. The buggy stop was only a 3 minute walk and with buggies running every 10 minutes, it was so easy to get to the other bars & restaurants.

We upgraded to All Inclusive a la carte which was so worth the money. Such an amazing cocktail menu and so many named spirits to choose from. The resataurants were all outstanding. While the Thai was our least favourite, it was still really yummy food.
The best have to be the Palm (italian) for its superb Carpaccio and amazing tazmanian tenderloin steak. This was definitely on a par with the island BBQ for The flambe'd steak diane and then for afters the flambe'd crepes suzette. Out of 10 nights we did the italian 3 nights and the BBQ for 3 too. My husbands favourite lunchtime spot was the coffee shop. He swears by the steak sandwich.

The snorkelling was fantastic! I'm not a big sea swimmer but it is so clear and calm that its hard not to love it. My first encounter with a reef shark was beyond scary but i became to love them after 10 days. The fish are out of this world and you manage to see different fish in different parts of the island. The best spot is next to the Eco centre, plenty of reef and fish to see before it drops off.

I paid for my husband and i to have a couples massage out on the pavillion for his birthday. The only downfall to the spa is that the steam and sauna areas are single sex so we couldnt go in together. However the massage with hot stones is so relaxing and it was followed by a herbal bath with a bottle of fizz- Perfect!

Finally, the people! All the staff are so friendly and welcoming, they work 24/7 constantly keeping the island clean and tidy to make it the most wonderful place to stay. I only wish I could honeymoon there every year.

We left on a seaplane which was a far better journey to the airport and great to do at sunrise.

Room Tip: Room 354 for a fab secluded and quiet beach spot or room 355 which is on stilts but no beach area.

My wife and I came here for our honeymoon in July and it was the most amazing stay that we had ever had. We stayed in Water Villa with Jacuzzi and it was just magical. We had the Select All Inclusive package which covered pretty much everything! It is highly recommended at least from my point of view. If you are going for your honeymoon you want to do it right and not have to worry about paying extra money when you get there. Keep the drinks flowing and the food coming! Maldives and Kuramathi Island was just mixing heaven and nature...when you visit the sandbank on the long side of the island it is breathtaking. You have to go to the Palm and get dessert every day for lunch - their ice cream desserts are incredible!

All in all, the resort is family friendly and at the same time if you are on your honeymoon there is never enough people around to make it seem like you're part of a typical honeymoon spot. Added bonus is the price vs. Bora Bora and yet with the same beauty! Kuramathi Island Resort is a must!

Room Tip: The Water Villas with Jacuzzis have direct access to the snorkeling channels!

3 of us went to Kuramathi predominantly for scuba diving. The water villa was very comfortable and being able to jump into the atoll lagoon from your balcony is priceless. Agree with other comments that it seems like a warm hospitable place for families and that the food is hearty, but not exceptional (we did not try any of the ala carte options). The vegetable antipasto at lunch was excellent.
From a diving perspective, it was outstanding. Strong thumbs up for Rasdhoo Divers. We'd sent an email to the dive office before arrival and they were prepared for us when we arrived. All of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Two of us wanted to obtain our Advanced certification and our instructor, Amanda, was fantastic. We wound up going on 6 dives in 3 days (had to cancel our night dive due to a storm); each was different and fun. Unfortunately no hammerheads on the hammerhead dive, and evidently that is the more common outcome. Nevertheless, it was a fun deep dive surrounded by phosphorescent plankton in the early morning. The wall dives along the atoll were excellent, but the highlight was the half-day safari to the Ari atoll. Everyone writes about Maaya Thila, which was fantastic, but Hafsda Thila was even more spectacular. The rental equipment was well maintained and fitted, and includes a dive computer. Nitrox tanks are free for those certified. The boats are comfortable and well-staffed. While accommodation was not inexpensive, it was an amazing dive holiday. Strongly recommended. The $50/day upgrade to unlimited drinks was a great investment and gave plenty of great options for evening consumption. We did not feel we missed anything by not going to the more expensive $100/day option.

Room Tip: Water Villas on the lagoon side was great. But the ones on the ocean side also looked very nice.

We stayed at Kuramathi from 3-17 August 2012. The island was just paradise! We stayed in a superior beach villa with Jacuzzi, which was a good size for a 2 week stay. The service was really good from all the staff and the island never felt crowded or busy. I would recommend the select all inclusive package as you can then eat at all the restaurants (which are all fabulous). I cannot say enough things about this resort, I would certainly go back without question.

This holiday prompted me to write my first review!!

We were in Kuramathi from 3-17 Aug 2012 and had an amazing time! I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone it was so good. The island is paradise, the superior beach villas with jacuzzi were perfect for us with our 6 year old son and you never feel crowded - it is all so private. Amenities were really good from kids club to spa to bars and the multiple great restaurants. It was our first time in the Maldives and we were worried 14 nights would be too long without much to do but Kuramathi is just the right size island so we had good variety of food etc. The Select All-Inclusive is the way to go to get everything included including food in all six A La Carte restaurants (food is fantastic!), cocktails etc etc. You should book it now!
