It is apparent that the five star review was an insider. There is not great atmosphere. There is no atmosphere. Dry goods storage is in open sight in the dining room. There was food prep being conducted in booths. The decorations and tables likely came from the sale of a Chinese restaurant opened in the 70's. Do not expect a dining experience. Great spot for carry out or delivery or a quick stop with no expectations on ambiance. Again, food was fresh and tasty.

In the area on a business trip, I sought out the Gold Lion because of an earlier highly positive review I saw on Tripadvisor. Overall, I was disappointed.

The staff were very nice and friendly. It seems like a family-run business; a cute little toddler was being given the well-supervised run of the rear part of the restaurant (he was very well-behaved and not a problem at all). The decor was dreary, with booths of formica and metal. If the food had been better, none of that would have mattered, but it wasn't.

I had three items: steamed pot stickers, mongolian beef with white rice, and hot and sour soup. The pot stickers were too doughy, though the meat filling was reasonably tasty once you got to it. I wound up taking off most of the dough, which made a better final product but was a mess to have to do. The mongolian beef made a good first impression. It was tasty and spiced pretty well without being too hot. But after a few minutes, the grease started to make itself more and more felt, and by the time I was done, there was a noticeable residue on the plate, and I was feeling a little queasy. The hot and sour soup was good, though it could have used more mushrooms and water chestnuts, and was served with a small package of dry noodles. Of the three dishes I tried, the soup was the best.

The prices were very reasonable, and if you're in the mood for inexpensive, ordinary Chinese take-out food, it's an OK choice. But if you're expecting more, judging from my experience you won't find it there.

The only not perfect score is atomsphere, but the food is hands down best in the city. Huge portions, fast delivery/carryout, reasonable prices. I have always been happy with their food.
