We are huge fans of Mamasan so we went here for a very late lunch. It was great. Empty because of the time, but the decor would fit a quiet lunch/dinner as well as the energy that Mamasan has when it is full.

The food was exceptional, as was the service.

I only wish I had time to go back. It’s the kind of place that creates cravings...

Enjoyed 4 wonderful evenings over the past 2 months.
3 dinners in the rear section - which I recommend and the other in the front section.
Menu is always changing. Great décor. Superb staff.

We visited as a group of 6. We selected a range of different starters and mains and all were delicious! Wine list very impressive too! Venue is gorgeous! We'll definitely be back next trip! Service staff were fantastic as well.

Bali is an island full of good food, and som chai is a place you can give it a try, but may be wont make you come back.

Lets talk about the good.
-.The food is yummy enough.
-. The wait staff was lovely and knowledable about the food.

Lets talk about the minus
-.Not brave enough in the spiciness level.

- they have dress code. No T shirt and no rubber slippers. They somehow wanted to make this place like a fine dining chic ambience. But none bother anyway.

-.Staff dip in their thumb when serving the food.

-. Price is on the high side. Like very expensive for thai street food. They did say it is expensive for the taste is very authentic and freshly made.

-.Drink is outragous. 60k for a small bottle of water lol.
Tea is 38k which is normal in fine dining restaurant. I rarely ordered wine in bali since I find it not worth the price. Not I cant afford it, but I just think its not worth it.

-.The staff take our plate when we are still eating when we still have a food in it. Although I can sense she doesnt mean to be rude, but she just tried to be attentive.

Life is full of possibilities !

Thank you for your review, it is quirky and kind, you liked our food and appreciated our staff, even if you found them a little over attentive. They are knowledgeable and if you love spicy please let them know so they can recommend the spicy dishes. Our menu is quite varied to appeal to many tastes and we do use authentic recipes, some Thai food is less spicy than others.

We appreciate you do not like that people ignore our dress code, and to be honest we try to encourage good standards, but we can't turn a customer away if they don't want to take our suggestions.
Yes, water is 60k but why, because we want to serve our guests trusted and pure water, this maybe an unusual statement to make but if you have been reading about the contamination in bottled water, from plastic bottles you would be as concerned as we are about getting the best water possible.

One other thing to know is at Som Chai we love our guests to give us feedback it drives us to ensure that everyone experiences the best we can offer, so we thank you and please do come back, we would welcome you anytime.
