Brilliant!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Jan 2017via mobile
We only made one mistake here and that was only booking for the one night cruise instead of 2!
The Alleppy Backwaters are fantastic and something not to be missed. But even more so Xandari do a fantastic job. We had one of the smaller houseboats. A 4 berth one, but in my view it's the one to get a more traditional shape, sure the upstairs viewing area on one of their other boats looked great, but overall the "Snugness" of our boat was just right. The 3 man crew were just fantastic, looking after your every need. To think you have your own chef! You see enough of the sites and you get to relax \, which after nearly 3 weeks in India at breakneck speed was a welcome relief. Put this trip with Xandari on your bucket list.

This was an amazing experience, I really felt relaxed and at home the moment I stepped aboard our houseboat, I had been expecting to rough it, but was really surprised to find an air conditioned bedroom and a bathroom with a hot shower! The three guys looking after us could not have been more friendly, and the food was superb, if you want a truly relaxing time in India, hop on board one of these houseboats and watch the world float by!

Dear Annie,

The Xandari experience is all about enjoying the loveliness of raw nature with the comfort and luxury of modern times. Your beautiful words about our houseboat experience, makes us feel absolutely ecstatic; we just loved it! Xandarians are the friendliest lot and we are delighted to know that they left a lasting impression.

We have kept more seaside holiday experience for travelers at Xandari Harbour, our harbour-facing, waterfront property at the world heritage-worthy Fort Kochi and Xandari Pearl at Alleppey, our beach hideaway. Should your travels bring you back to Kerala, we wish you would try these Xandari destinations that bring pure life experiences! Looking forward to welcoming you soon!

Happy travels!

We chose the overnight option and were pleased with this decision. We boarded our 75ft long rice boat just in time for lunch, which we ate as we cruised to our first stop. The boat was designed to accommodate two people in considerable comfort and style! We had a lovely air conditioned double cabin with ensuite toilet and shower. We were taken on a smaller boat to the narrower backwaters where we witnessed a slice of life of the locals going about their everyday business. Back on our boat, we were taken to a peaceful overnight mooring and served dinner, which was very good. Although the mooring was remote, the boat was connected to electrical shore power, and we therefore enjoyed the benefits of air conditioning without the noise of an engine or generator. We were able to walk along the bank for a short distance to enjoy the views. There were three staff on our boat, Captain, engineer and chef, who were all excellent.

I actually went to kochi to attend a conference and i booked one houseboat of xandari riverscapes THE ACHANKOVILAR I was not very sure about this hotel on water but to my pleasant surprise the Houseboat was surprisingly comfortable and i would say rather luxurious I had insisted for Vegetarian Food and the quality of the food provided was very good. We were taken on a canoeing trip into the surrounding water bound villages. The best thing about the whole tour was the excellent service provided by the staff aboard the boat. The only problem i had was the bad approach road to the jetty.

Dear Mallik,

The “hotel on water” experience is the most enjoyable when it is accompanied by delicious food and wonderful staff. The backwaters are awesome and we are excited to know that you enjoyed it. Should you visit Kerala again, we would love to host you by the Harbour or by the beach at Xandari Pearl to give you more wonderful Xandari holiday experiences.

See you soon!

We were a family with 5 adults and 3 kids spending one day on this river cruise. The first impression was great as it looked so pretty and traditional. They are well maintained too. We got a good glimpse of real backwaters through this experience and the canoe ride which is included in the same package..!

Overall found this to be a unique experience with lots of time to spend with each other.. missed having a few board games though! The food was cooked on board and we found that to be quite a highlight as it was authentic Kerala fare for lunch and some good Chinese Indian for dinner. They are quite accommodating as they ask what we would like to have and prepare accordingly. I would recommend this totally if you want a nice Kerala experience!

Hello there!

River cruises have fewer distractions, which makes it a great option for family holidays. Glad to know that you enjoyed the Kerala backwaters and we will consider your suggestion for including board games. Should you wish to travel to Kerala again, you should check out the fabulous experiences we have kept for you at Xandari Harbour (harbor-facing, water-front property at world heritage-worthy Fort Kochi) and Xandari Pearl, Alleppey (the beach hideaway you have been daydreaming about).

Do come back soon for more memorable holidays!

Lovely way to see a different side of life. Should have booked a two night cruise!
Crew on boat very polite and helpful. Food basic but very well done. They will try to accommodate diets if told beforehand also will adjust strength of spices in dishes.
Overnight mooring had good breeze so not many mosquitos. Rooms clean and bathrooms adequate.

Room tip: We had a 3 bedroomed boat for 2 couples so had more than enough 'living' space. Do not know how a 2 bedroomed boat would compare.
