“Great place in Brooklyn”
Reviewed 12 May 2018 for a stay in May 2018

This was a nice, clean apartment. There was a kitchen, but I didn't cook. I was on vacation. Walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, attractions. Short walk to subway system. Host met us at property and walked us through everything. Super nice!

“Lovely place in Brooklyn”
Reviewed 14 March 2018 for a stay in March 2018

We stayed for the second time in this cosy place in Brooklyn. It is just a block away from the metro, and a nice 15 minute walk to downtown Brooklyn. We are a family of four, and for us it was just perfect to come home to a beautiful place after a long day of sightseeing. The kitchen provides everything you need, we loved to have a coffee in the morning before heading of. The neighbourhood has all you want: nice shops and cafes and good public transport. Shirley is always helpful if you need something, and she is a warm and friendly person. She ordered us a local taxi which brought us back to the airport, and she offerde us to leave our bags in the house until we flew out in the evening. The communication was easy and uncomplicated, just what you wish for! We will definately come back again, a great place and absolute good value for your money

Our family had a great time in Brooklyn. The apartment was spacious and characterful and was in the lower ground level of a Brownstone House. 5 minutes walk to Subway and 10 mins to bohemian cafes and restaurants. Our host, Shirley, was engaging and informative. We loved it!

“Manhattan New York for 8 days, done by residing in Brooklyn!!”

I've been back home in Canada now for 3 weeks and still cant come down from the high of the trip shared as a family of 3. It was truly one of our best trips, we laughed, we cried, we exhausted ourselves, we toured, we became locals for a week!!! And the locals welcomed us with open arms, literally....i'll explain.
We arrived at Penn station around 1pm Saturday afternoon. We weren't sure we could manage luggage and subway, so we took a cab. It cost us $45 with tip to come across to our oasis in Brooklyn, where we were greeted by the lovely host Shirley. Shirley had been in contact with me the day before and the day of, she knew we may be early for our arrival and had made plans for us to drop by and drop off our luggage while she finished cleaning up from the previous guest. We got a tour, a map of the area, some recommendations on where to eat and we were off. We walked about 2 minutes down the road, where we got pulled into a block party being held by the apostolic church. They generously gave my 13 year old son, school supplies for this up coming school year. We explained that we were from Canada visiting and that that wasn't necessary but they felt the need all the same, it was amazing. They then continue to offer us food that they had prepared for the block party. We weren't sure at first and were nervous about jumping into an unknown "blockparty" in a city We didn't know. But are We GLAD We did!! We enjoyed barbecue chicken, curry chicken, smoked ribs, corn on the cob, potato salad, rolls, water or juice and it was by far the BEST meal we had while we were in New York. We sat on the stairs to the church and enjoyed our meal, while watching the young children bounce in the bouncy castle and junior college kids play basketball. After our meal, the boys playing basketball pulled our 13 year old son into the game with them. He made new friends and enjoyed an hour or so of some good ole street basketball. We later found out, one of the boys was a pro college basketball player. They truly were the heart of our trip. They welcomed us with open arms and set the tone for an amazing trip.

After our amazing afternoon, we went back to our brownstone apartment to freshen up and head out for the night. We found everything in the apartment to be immaculately clean and accurate to the listing. During our stay, I can't think of one thing that was missing or needed. Shirley has everything set up in the apartment, as if she herself lived there. The bathroom is a three piece bath, equipped with a deep bath tub, which for us was a great addition because of all the walking we did in a day, it helped soothe the very tired legs and feet.
The kitchen has everything you need, including a salad spinner. Can't say we used it thou!!
The airconditioners kept us comfortable at night when we returned. The livingroom/dining room was comfortable and has satellite tv for those lazy mornings or unwinding evenings.
Shirley meet with us a couple times during our stay to check in and check us out. We enjoyed our conversations with her and her Recommendations. We will be back!

The next day we went to the church for the service they had invited us to. It was by far the most amazing experience we've ever had in a church. We had planned on going to a gospel church service in Harlem, but after this service, we knew we didnt need to, we had been to an authentic gospel service.
The remaining part of our trip is much like others, where we did touristy things and took lots of photos, I won't bore you with all those details. But leave you with, I highly recommend Shirleys brownstone apartment. Encourage you to become a local for a week, take the subway, explore all there is to explore and make memories. Enjoy! We did. Thanks Shirley, thanks Brooklyn, thanks Apostolic church and thank you New York City!!

“Great Brooklyn Apartment, close to subway”

Our family of four loved staying here! I was so happy to open windows in this basement apartment or turn on the air conditioner. We loved feeling like commuters, going into the city every day. Brooklyn was a great home base, with the best pizza near the bridge. Saw the Metropolitan Opera perform at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. We felt very safe in this area. A grocery store is just a few blocks away and brought food in a few times. Much better having a kitchen and one bedroom when travelling with 4 people. The bedroom is good size with a hide-a-bed sofa. 2 twin beds with a TV in the living room for the teens/kids. Very clean apartment with all of the amenities in the kitchen. Shirley was so helpful and knows local doctors, etc., which came in handy on this trip! Finding a chiropractor in Manhattan from a hotel would have been a challenge. Thanks Shirley for a wonderful stay!
