This museum is a perfect combination of visual and informational history. They actually let you touch authentic prehistoric animal bones! I learned a great deal about Alaska’s history and also had an opportunity to wander an exhibit by native artists including one in the sound of the Earth. The museum is not huge but it is packed. Worth three to four hours during any trip to Fairbanks!

The museum is in an attractive building at the University. Its largest gallery is basically Alaskan history, with some stuffed animals for the natural environment. Don't miss Blue Babe the bison. There are some fascinating bits of information here, for example there is an extensive section on the little-known Aleut internment during WWII. The art gallery is top notch for Alaskan art. The museum is a gem if you are looking for something to do during the day prior to your Aurora hunting.

Everything I read and heard about this museum turned out to be true. It's a fantastic tribute to Native Alaskan artists, the native animals of Alaska, it's prehistoric life, and everything in between. The museum is in a beautiful, open and clean building and everyone who works there is super helpful. I loved the people in the museum store especially; they helped me pick some gifts for my family and took the time to explain the artwork I chose. This was one of my favorite things I did in Fairbanks!

This is a small but super nice museum. My 16 and 7 year old sons had fun. The exhibitions are nicely displayed and interesting. There is also an auditorium that has 3 different short movies scheduled throughout the day.
