Stayed here one night in late July. Clerk (owner?) checked in 2 rooms to find my reservation--odd that they might be in two separate rooms. She brought it out, I saw my name on the paper. She immediately tried to get me to switch to a room with "a nicer bed" for just $10 more. Not a fan of bait-and-switch, I declined. Had to say no three times before she'd let me check in for the rate I had booked.
Had to fill out an old fashioned written registration, even though everything was on the printout on the counter. Annoying, but minor.
Only after she processed my credit card did she tell me they'd need about 10 minutes to get the room ready. It was 10:45 p.m. I don't understand why it wasn't cleaned earlier. My wife and I waited and when we brought our things into the room, we tried to use the bathroom. The toilet in this room was next to the wall of the main room, right beside the wall to the shower stall. The width of this mini-"hallway" was 18 inches--essentially the width of the toilet seat and about 1½ inches on either side. Not only that, but the wall bulged out in many areas.
We literally could not squeeze our wide bodies into that area to enable us to sit on the toilet. I returned to the office and asked to see the room that...Stayed here one night in late July. We literally could not squeeze our wide bodies into that area to enable us to sit on the toilet. I returned to the office and asked to see the room that was $10 more. She cackled about how "I told you it was a nicer room." She hadn't said anything about the toilet being inaccessible in the first room, only that the bed was nicer in the more expensive room.
The other room had a normal bathroom and was acceptable. With the clerk, I observed that the fridge was room temperature. She said, calmly, "It works, you just need to plug it in. She proceeded to take a cord and plug it into a power plug for me. Minutes later, my wife said the fridge isn't working. She discovered our hostess plugged in the coffee pot instead of the fridge.
All of the furniture looked so chipped and cracked, I believe they drove near a college at the end of the school year and picked up their furnishings on the curb.
Our hostess took several minutes to get the small, flat-screen TV to work. The size of the screen was about 17 inches. I was told to not use the number buttons to change channels, but only the up and down buttons.
The ice machine was at the far corner of the place, down a dark hall inside the laundry room. When I got there, the room was pitch black until I turned the switch on. It was the 1970s style ice machine where you lift the big lid and use a scoop to break apart the ice cubes and shovel them into your container. In today's world, we aren't too comfortable knowing all other guests had access to the very cubes I put into my container.
On the plus side, the bed was OK, and we parked right outside our room.
I guess it's better than sleeping in your car at the rest area, but if you are assigned to room 16, I hope you are extra-skinny or you might have a huge problem trying to use the toilet.More
