Owner description: A New Day For Tours...in Savannah, Hilton Head, Riceboro, and the Lowcountry of Georgia and South Carolina – “Day Clean Journeys”. We take you on journeys through time. Get a full view of the history regarding the above areas on one of our journeys (tours). We pride ourselves on providing “Tours for Everyone”! Anyone can and will enjoy our tours. Day Clean is a Gullah phrase that means “new day”, “beginning of the day”, or “dawn”. In addition, it is a philosophy of life that means each day is a new day; each day starts anew; no matter what occurred yesterday – today is a new day (“day clean”) . We provide stimulating, informative, and enlightening journeys. You may even become a little inspired after a journey.Students and Teachers, Families, Religious Groups, Youth Organizations, Conference Attendees, Senior Citizens, Friends, and Others have been enthralled by our journeys. We are sure you will be enthralled, also.We have provided tours and shared the history of the lowcountry to groups for over a decade. Not only can we provide a wonderful tour but we can arrange for living history presentations that are entertaining, engaging, and illuminating.

Day Clean Journeys gave us a wonderful step on tour. They were on time and had purchased the required bus tour permits. Our guide, Jamal, was very engaging for the adults and kids in our group. He had great historical knowledge and humor. He was so engaging that another tour group tagged onto our group at the First African Baptist Church in order to hear his presentation. I highly recommend Day Clean Journeys.

A tour with Day Clean Journeys is shining the light on the Trans-Atlantic Slave Passage and its many historical branches that lead to where we are today. Jamal Toure’ begins by informing the tourists that this is not going to be a tour, but a journey and that was no exaggeration.

This was the most intimate, customized tour ever. 6 of us in total, and the tour guide took his time to answer all of our questions in a very detailed way. We went to all of the places important to Black people. I feel much more knowledgeable about how African-Americans built and influenced Savannah!!

Just like in Charleston, Atlanta and other cities in the South, a visitor could easily spend a week sauntering along the city’s boulevards and popular attractions, and leave without a clue about the essential role African-Americans played. For this reason I make it a point to embark on an African-American History tour whenever I visit Southern cities, and this tour did not disappoint. Jamal Touré gives a new perspective to a tour of Savannah.

Much of Savannah’s black history has been poorly documented and some cases intentionally omitted. It’s tough to imagine now, but for decades during segregation – and before the urban renewal projects of the 1960s — the pride of Savannah’s black movers and shakers was West Broad Street, now a gritty stretch of vacant lots, public housing and highway overpasses known as Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Jamal takes you around several streets and gives you the truth about everything you see on these several streets. Since many buildings have been destroyed or have evolved into other businesses, you will never know the full history of Savannah until you take this tour.

I highly recommend Day Clean Journeys. Jamal Touré is well-versed in the history of the African American experience in Savannah.
