Very clean and great staff. Sabrina at the front desk is one of the best that I have seen. Harold (?) our shuttle driver was so nice. This is an excellent spot to stay if you are departing for a cruise. One recommendation would be to do a little better job educating guests on what to do when they are being picked up from the cruise terminal. Give them a meeting place and a card or something with instructions. We felt very lost when we got off the ship and did not know how to connect with our shuttle back to the hotel... other than that - GREAT JOB!

We stayed here two nights. Once before our cruise, and once afterward. The front desk staff is awesome, and the hotel is very very clean. The housekeeping staff here needs to be commended for their hard work. The place was absolutely spotless. The pool area is very nice, with a spa. The rooms are spacious, and we had a great king room that had a microwave, fridge, huge bathroom and very comfortable beds. Nice desk space, extra chair, and a place for your luggage. If you don't have a car, the only place to eat is Wendy's next door, but for one night that was fine. There is a gas station across the highway that is within walking distance, but be careful as you have to cross a 4 lane busy road. There are sidewalks most of the way. We walked over in the evening to buy soda for our cruise, and it wasn't bad. They have a plan that you can park your car during your cruise, and take a shuttle to and from the port. The parking at the hotel is less expensive than the port. We didn't have a car, so we just had to pay a few buck a head to catch the shuttle to the port. Talk to the desk staff so they know what you need. On our return, we actually got off the ship fairly quickly, and our rooms were not ready. We took a cab to a great big mall about 15 miles away. Ask for PETE....he was like having a tour guide. Very friendly, and wont rip you off being a tourist from out of town. We had to take another cab back from the mall as wanted to return before he was free to bring us back and paid almost double for a gator taxi service. The free breakfast was okay. The continental items were good, cereal, bagels, coffee etc. The eggs, were okay, but I am not a big egg person to begin with. They had yogurt, fruit etc as well. Great price and value. I can understand why they are so highly rated. They were also very busy, and still made sure we understood where to find things. THANK YOU HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS!!!

Room Tip: They do have smoking rooms on the third floor. Our view was okay...but don't think it mattered from any part of the hotel.

Overall this HIE is a good property which offers everything I've come to expect from the brand. Check-in staff was extremely friendly and helpful, made us feel very welcome. The room was comfortable, especially the beds; the bathroom floor could have been cleaner, especially for a HIE.

It is obvious that this property- being handy to the cruise ship port- was built for heavy traffic and crushing waves of guests. The decor needs updating, both in the rooms and in the public areas. But the only real annoyance is one that can't be so easily fixed. The hotel's construction (possibly all-wood frame core) makes for terrible noise as everything vibrates.

The noise from nearby rooms and the pounding sensation of guests walking/running in the hallways is very noticeable and disrupting. Sound insulation is poor, worse than most other HIE's. Thankfully, it didn't go on all night; we would not have been able to sleep if it had.

Noise from the nearby expressway, though, is practically non-existant.
This is a good location for non-cruisers as well; and the zoo is nearby, making it great for families. The outdoor pool area looked attractive and well-kept. I'd stay again, but I'd request the top floor next time.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor room if noise and vibration bothers your sleep.

My husband and I were treated like royality! We were picked up at the airport , taken to a resturant and taken to the port for our cruise and when the cruise was over we were picked up and were able to check in at 9:00am in a deluxe room at the same cost of our reservation without no hassle, issues or concerns, just a smile from the staff. We were even taken and picked up from the zoo. Highly recommend this hotel. The owner (Paul) even took us to the airport at 5:00am in the morning. We certainly could have not asked for a more accomodating hotel. Rooms were very clean as well. A big thank you goes out to the staff and owner for making our short visit hassle free!

We'd never stayed here before - we just picked it for its proximity to the cruise terminal. I was surprised to hear about an affordable (cheaper than the crusie ship) shuttle that would take us roundtrip between the airport-hotel-cruise terminal. When we asked at check-in, what to do about dinner, we were told about another shuttle that was available to take us to an area that had lots of options for dinner. How thoughtful! With an expansive lounge area, free Wi-Fi and complimentary hot breakfast, I'm not sure what else the hotel could have done except maybe packed for us! PS - Marshall is exceptionally polite and organized!
