“Most relaxing, comfortable and wonderful trip to Maryland EVER!”

We stayed at Vista June 27th-31st. We have family in Emmitsburg (about 15-20 minutes away) and we were here for a family reunion of sorts. Usually we will stay in a hotel (which is no closer to our family than Vista) or our North Carolina family will split up and stay with family in whatever extra bedroom or couch happens to be available. We have been coming to visit our family like this for the past 30 years. While we love them staying at a hotel or on a couch is not the most comfortable and often becomes tiring after a couple of nights. Staying at Vista allowed our Charlotte family to stay under one roof together very comfortably and bring our dogs with us. Waking up each morning felt as though we were staying on some private resort of some sort. The grounds are beautiful and we took many family walks through the trails. The little ones loved being able to explore and "go on adventures and collect treasures" each morning on the trails. The enclosed garden and patio area was beautiful! It was so relaxing to see the fish and watch frogs jump from lily pad to lily pad while butterflies fluttered all around. The owners were incredibly hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed and more. My mother in law was in heaven watching the birds just outside the dining room windows. It meant the world to my husband and I to have our dogs with us as well! We are planning at staying at Vista every time we visit family in the future! We had a wonderful visit and loved everything about our stay at Vista! We would definitely recommend Vista to anyone... As long as they aren't planning on staying when we would like to be there! :-)

“Beautiful, peaceful, spacious country house about 30 minutes from Gettysburg”

This house is one of three houses on a 100+-acre property about half an hour's drive from the battlefield and town of Gettysburg. The surroundings could not be more beautiful, with corn growing almost up to the house, beautiful flower gardens, a large, sheltered front patio with a koi pond and barbecue, a bird feeder that attracted many species of birds during our visit, spacious living room with fireplace, dining room, and kitchen, all furnished above the typical level of a rental house, and three bedrooms with enough sleeping space for our eight-person party -- a master bedroom with queen bed and its own bathroom, a second bedroom with double-sized bed and bathroom across the hall, and a large room downstairs with queen bed and two sleeper sofas, and a bathroom to to go with them.

For Civil War buffs, the house had a library with quite a few books, movies, and maps of the Gettysburg battlefield. The house is just outside the center of the town of Taneytown, MD, about 30 minutes away from Gettysburg by country roads.

We were welcomed as if we were old friends of the owners and caretakers. They even posted a welcome message to us along the driveway.

All in all, it was a wonderful place to stay. I would love to go back in the winter and spend some time in front of the fireplace in the living room.

The property was as advertised. The house was luxurious, the grounds beautiful. the hosts gracious and the trails relaxing. During our stay, the weather reverted to winter, but sitting around the fireplace and reviewing the days activities was great. Super location to visit "War for Independence" (as southerners know it) sites and the beauty of Amish country Alas, six nights were gone quickly and we headed back South with fond memories and complete satisfaction with the rental. If you go, food and luggage is all you need to supply.

This is a beautiful home with incredible relaxing views. Our hosts were so gracious and helpful and went the extra mile-she even had flowers on the table for us. Their dog, Indiana, also did her part to welcome us as she took us on the walk around the property. Easy access from Gettysburg and Washington.

We had a great time. Vista was perfectly located for our jaunts to Gettysburg, Antietam and Fredrick. We're usually a "been there, done that" couple, but we weren't on the road for 30 minutes before we were talking about coming back in a couple of years. Loved everything about our trip, and the area. Vista will be a cherished memory for a long, long time.

Thanks, Jim and Ruth Burken (and the pooches!)
