Our Family decided to get away for a few days during the New Years school break . As I researched the many possibilities of Bed and Breakfasts in and around Gettysburg, one of these stood out. Raphael's. The reason it stood out was the many excellent reviews it received. But if you read these reviews, you would notice that many people not only wrote about their experience in Gettysburg but there appreciation and fondness with the Inn's owners. Alex, George, and their "wonder dog" Heidi. Also people wrote about the cleanliness, and the breakfast and all around atmosphere of the Inn. They were all "Spot on"
As we arrived at the Raphael Inn in the early evening, we were greeted with a wonderful sweet aroma perfectly timed to give you the feeling of being welcomed to their 5 star Inn. It also gave you the feeling you went back in time with the beautiful decor of the Inn, like you were in Paris, France during the 1920's.
We were first greeted by Alex with her warm, welcoming smile immediately gave you a the feeling that this was a wise choice in staying at their B&B. Soon after, her husband George came out to greet us with Heidi. After talking with them, I then understood why so many people wrote wonderful things about the Inn and it's Keepers. We stayed in the the "California Room". It was like staying in a luxury bedroom in which were designed with such love and care. Our children are 15 and 10 who also came with us. Our Daughter said " This was the nicest place she ever stayed in " My son also said the same thing. As our children explored the various candies left in well positioned bowls around the Inn, things just seemed perfect. Everything from the soft, fluffy pillows to the well positioned pictures on the walls. Sitting in a quaint dining room by the window was enjoyable in the evening sipping on hot cocoa and talking to Alex and George. Enjoying freshly baked brownies are something I will remember. On New Years Eve ,our family walked down to the Gettysburg Circle which was a short 10 minute walk. I would highly recommend this walk because of the many beautiful homes along the road. Also, Alex and George will give you many ideas in what to do in Gettysburg. The tour of the battlefield was the most memorable indeed for me. Our Daughters favorite were the Haunted homes that were advertisedfrom the various Ghost Hunter shows on TV. As I am a much traveled person and very picky as to where I stay, I must say this is a "10", a 5 Star! This trip was so much fun for everyone. My wife liked the Dobbins House for dinner where we had the most amazing french onion soup by candlelight.
The best part of this trip is knowing we will surely be returning to Gettysburg but not just to enjoy the many things to do there, but all of us will look forward to spending a few days with our new friends that we made on this vacation.
