“You will be awed as you park the car!”
Reviewed 17 March 2012

When you reach the parking lot and get your first view of the crater you will be awed. Don't miss this fabulous landform. Hiking the rim requires some stamina but you can go part way for some good views of the bottom.

“Immense Crater with Sharp Geological Features.”
Reviewed 14 March 2012

Although a long drive from Furnace creek, it was well worth the trip. Just to view this magnificent hole and the geologic strata and to imagine the kind of explosion which created the crater are awesome. We did not walk into the crater, but did the circumference walk.

“An impressive hole in the ground”
Reviewed 13 March 2012

Ubehebe Crater is a volcanic crater not far from Scottie's Castle. You can visit the crater after you visit the Castle. There is no extra charge for visiting the Crater (other than your National Park Pass). Parking is about halfway up the crater and you can see much of the crater from the parking lot. A more impressive view can be had with a short hike to the top of the crater on a gritty trail. Some people actually hiked to the bottom of the crater. There is a trail that rings the crater if you feel ambitious, and any person that is reasonably fit could probably complete it under 45 minutes, but be warned because there is zero shade.

“Wear your hiking shoes!”
Reviewed 1 March 2012

Didn't realize there would be hiking opportunities here, and we didn't wear the right clothes/shoes. Would have been fun to hike perimeter or down to the bottom! Probably should bring hiking sticks.

“Very impressive!”
Reviewed 27 February 2012

You gotta love the name of this place, it's just so fun to say! "You-bee-hee-bee" And it's much more impressive and colorful than I thought a crater would be. Very cool in person. I wish we'd had the opportunity to hike the bottom, but it wasn't to be on this trip. It can be windy around the rim, so be prepared with warm clothes (in the winter anyway). If you drive north in the park to see this or Scotty's Castle, be sure to see both, they're close together.
