“Nice little sandwich shop”

Flyboys is a small friendly sandwich shop that serves great draft beer and a very nice selection of wines by the glass. I would not characterize them as a deli but they have a nice selection of sandwiches, a few soups, salads and some appetizers. There is no real cooking and the sides arestaples like chips or potato salad. There are tables as well as a sofa and a couple of overstuffed chairs on the main floor, along with bar seating. Upstairs is another room as well as a nice outdoor patio overlooking Far Hills Avenue in the small Oakwood business district. A nice touch are all the references to Dayton's storied invention history, from the Wright brothers to Charles Kettering and John Patterson.

Heard this place had a pretty cool deck to sit on and have food and drinks. My husband and I went here for dinner and drinks. We were unimpressed with the menu so we did not order any dinner. Instead we grabbed a drink and headed upstairs to the deck. The deck is small and the view is boring, overlooking the main street in Oakwood. Actually the upstairs tables were dirty, had not been wiped since the last use. Glad no one was wanting to sit at them. My husband had his foot resting on a foot bar attached to the freestanding bar upstairs, and the whole thing fell on the floor. He was kind enough to reassemble it. Paintings upstairs on the walls and ceiling were cool though. Not coming back.

A great family-owned (I think), authentic sandwich shop. Love the combinations for sandwiches as well as the soup and other side options. It's conveniently located, reasonably priced, and just delicious! The staff is so friendly. The theme of the restaurant is very Dayton and designed well. I always look forward to coming here!

Flyboys Deli advertises itself as "New York Deli without leaving Dayton". Having eaten in many NYC deli's I can attest to their truth in advertising. What's a deli without great pastrami? And theirs is great. And you have to have lox and bagel. They do. Flyboys has a number of excellent local beers on draft and a good wine list.

This is a great place to enjoy authentic New York deli sandwiches. The Rueben is outstanding. The service and atmosphere is friendly and lively. Their slogan is: NY deli without leaving Dayton. It's true.
