My boyfriend and I obviously arrived in Ventura to visit a friend of mine on the wrong weekend! All hotels were over $200 per night so we chose the Bayshore Inn Motel based on the reviews and the under $200 per night rate. I will rate this hotel based on the price we paid, which was $144 (which included taxes) for one night.
The outside was not impressive, but the woman in the office was very friendly. We had a room on the top level and while the room was clean, it was very bare bones (no hair dryer, coffee maker, or refrigerator and no free continental breakfast). My main concern was the deadbolt did not work. If I had been alone I would not have stayed in that room. There was also a big gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. We slept fairly well though and the room was comfortable, but very basic. We also heard no noise during our stay which was nice.
On our way out for breakfast at a local restaurant we saw a woman pacing in the parking lot. When we got back from breakfast she was still pacing in the parking lot. We got our stuff and went to check out (and had to wake up the office staff at 9:30am) the woman was still pacing in the parking lot. My boyfriend suspected she was high on meth. She said nothing to us and did not bother us but it was very odd.
The place we stayed at in our previous city of San Luis Obispo was a bed and breakfast with breakfast, coffee, orange juice, tea, evening appetizers and wine tasting and within walking distance to downtown ... we paid $200 for one night. $144 is completely outrageous - don't stay there for more than about $70.
