“Far from Radisson standards”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

As a Club Carlson member, I usually stay in Radisson hotels which offer good location and good value for money. However Radisson Martinique is the exception. Stayed there for 10 nights during a mixed business/vacation trip and the experience was overall very poor.

The only advantage of this hotel is location. Two blocks from Macy's big department store, the hotel is located in midtown Manhattan making both downtown and uptown reachable by feet if you like walking. If you don't, you will find a convenient subway stop right in front of the hotel.

A couple of days prior to my trip the Club Carlson website offered me an upgrade to a "Club Level" room for $600 extra. I took the upgrade and the room we were given in the executive floor was nothing alike the photo on the website: no sofa, no extra space. Just two beds and a small bathroom.

The hotel has supposedly been recently renovated even if it doesn't seem so. AC machines make a terrible noise when they are on and the smoke evacuator in the bathroom is manually switched on during day time by hotel staff, which means if you arrive to your room late at night it will smell as if somebody would have been smoking there.

But the worst part was internet access, which was down during the whole stay. Being from aborad I personally checked there were free internet access as in other Radisson hotels before booking. There was a limited speed (512k) free connection a higher speed (1,5M) paying one but none of them worked. First day upon arrival we were told "there might be a problem with the internet in all of New York" which of course was trash talk. Days went by and the internet wasn't working, every day "under maintenance". It is unacceptable to pay for a business room nowadays and have to go early in ther morning and late at night to Starbucks / McDonalds to check email and have work done. The only internet working was in the business center with six very old PC usually occupied by teenagers checking their Facebook pages or watching YouTube videos. You couldn't use your own computer and work there.

Overall a very disappointing stay. This is by far the worst Radisson hotel I've stayed and I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Older building and the room was a bit small and could do with a makeover, and the bar and restaurant area are a bit small and can get very crowded, but otherwise the staff were pleasant and the location is fantastic.
A couple of blocks from the Empire State Building, Macys and right near the subway, meant that it is so easy to get anywhere.

Our first trip to NYC was made even more wonderful thanks to our stay at the Radisson. Starting with the front desk staff who had our room ready when we arrived. Being on the 16th floor gave us a great view of the big city. Throughout our stay, the staff was so helpful in giving us maps of the city/subway and helping with directions. The location of the hotel, made it so easy to get around (also we were two blocks from Macy's and the mall). On the date we left, the staff stored our luggage until we were ready to leave and even helped get a car for our ride back to JFK. A great big thanks from Texas.

Stayed with friends for a shopping trip and had a great time. Room was of an adequate size for 2 adults in each room and bathroom had what it needed and was clean. It's close to shopping, shows and plenty of eating places. The food in the hotel was ok but cross the road to Speedy's deli for breakfast, it's fantastic with a huge choice of fresh food with simple seating area available or take out.
We like to stay in different places but would stay again for a weekend.

In New York City, if you don't give 110%, you will likely not make it. This hotel gave poor service, the rooms were small and sparsely decorated, and the bathrooms small and dingy. Typical assumed items (such as shampoo, conditioner, and a comforter for EACH bed) were not present in the room. The staff made it very difficult to check in - I included both names of our party on the reservation (knowing that the other person would be checking in before myself), yet she was forced to wait in the lobby for 2 hours. As I mentioned in the title, there are too many options out there to risk another bad experience.

Greetings from New York City,

I was disappointed to read your review.

Our rooms have recently been renovated, including carpeting, bedding and furniture. I only wish you were on property to experience a completed room. Lighting, artwork and accent seating are scheduled to arrive. We hope these final additions will enhance each guest’s experience.

Regarding the deficiencies in your room, I request you contact me directly at 212-736-3800. Each of the amenities you mention are standard in-room items and also include mouthwash, body lotion, shower cap, and exfoliating soap. In addition, we offer sewing kit, shoe mitt, toothbrush and paste, razors and shaving cream, all upon request. I apologize that your room was missing amenities.
