Stayed for 3 nights a week before Christmas with my husband and two children. We booked a room that comes adjacent with a living and dining room. Very spacious for the four of us. Fabulous location and a really good hotel. Room was clean and recently refurbished. Check-in was smooth and quick. Doormen were always present and extremely helpful. We needed a big taxi to accommodate our luggages and they managed to locate one for us within minutes. The Grand Club staff were very friendly and accommodating. We walked from this hotel to Times Square, Macy's on 34th and to the Apple Store on 59th. All within 15 to 20 minutes walk from this hotel. We will certainly come back to stay here during our next visit to cool NYC!

Very nice stay at the Grand Hyatt. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The first room we were assigned the bathroom smelled of cigarette smoke. The woman at the front desk changed our room. The second room had a leaky toilet, which the staff was able to fix so we did not need to change room again. We had a charge of 12.00 on the bill for phone calls. They charge for 1800 calls. The woman at the front desk removed the charges. We had a king room and I thought it was a decent size.

Our last stay at the Grand Hyatt New York was 9 years ago, so we were familiar with the central location and proximity to Grand Central Station (which we like). This year, we stayed in two rooms on the newly renovated 24th floor from 12/15 - 12/19. I was very impressed with nearly every aspect of the Hotel and the renovated rooms. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the very pleasant and helpful Amanda who granted our request for two rooms next to each other, both with two double beds. The upgrade to the renovated floor was a nice surprise, and Amanda even gave our three girls their own Hyatt teddy bears. What a great welcome! As others have stated, the lobby is very large and beautiful. There is always a lot of activity there, and music booming in the bar area gives it the feel of a trendy NYC club. But the noise disappears when you step into the elevators--and there are a ton of elevators. We never waited more than 15 seconds for an elevator, and they move very quickly. Not even time to enjoy the television inside the elevator before arriving at our floor. The corridors and rooms on the 24th floor have a very chic, modern feel. The color scheme is sophisticated yet comforting. Rooms are very roomy by NYC standards. A few touches I enjoyed in the room included the iPod docking station/radio/alarm, flat-screen TV, the safe lighted from the inside with room for my laptop, the big "rainfall" shower head, chaise sofa, modern light fixtures and light switches, and nice size walk-in closet. Beds were plush, the room temperature always comfortable, and the bathroom amenities were upscale. Our window looked out over Grand Central Station, and we never heard any street noise. Hot water was plentiful--never an issue. Plenty of towels for the entire family. And no evidence of any bedbugs in either room after four nights. The tub was missing a stopper. We stuffed a wash cloth in the drain to hold water for baths. Housekeeping did a nice job cleaning the room but was inconsistent in leaving clean wash cloths and drinking glasses. And, as others have pointed out, a coffee maker would have been nice. My only other concern is the security of this hotel. There is nothing to prevent someone from coming in off the street and going up the elevators to the guest floors. I would recommend adding room card access to the elevators. Hotel personnel were usually standing by the elevator bank, but I never saw them question anyone. We had no problems, but I did see one person who didn't appear to be a guest go up and then quickly back down one day. I couldn't help but sense he was making some sort of delivery (hopefully a legal one). I could be wrong about him, but there is nothing to prevent this. The Grand Hyatt is a straight shot across 42nd street to Times Square--a 10-12 minute walk. Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick's Cathedral area is an easy 12-15 minute walk up Fifth Avenue. The New York Public Library and Bryant Park--where we love to ice skate, is a very short walk, and the Empire State Building is not far from there. Not to mention everything is easily accessible from Grand Central Station, where we also enjoyed cheesecake from Junior's every night. Tip: the iPhone GPS makes using the subway SUPER easy. It will tell you which train to get on and how many minutes until departure and arrival. Overall, I give the Grand Hyatt very high marks for location, comfort, and value. The staff was very friendly, though not intrusively so. My wife and I agree that we would stay at the Grand Hyatt again on our next visit to New York City.

GrandHyatt_NY_Mgmt, Manager at Grand Hyatt New York, responded to this reviewResponded 1 January 2011

Dear Stephmarty,

Thank you so much for your feedback! Great to hear you liked the renovated rooms and you had a pleasant stay at the Grand Hyatt New York, I agree, new rooms are really beautiful!

I wanted to get back to you as far as your concern with the hotel security, because this is a very important point for us. As management of a big hotel in midtown Manhattan we have to make sure we have the best security measures in place to make our guests feel safe at all time.
We are located on 42nd street where thousands and thousands of people walk everyday so safety is one of our main concerns.
As you also mentioned, we do have security agents at the entrance doors and next to the elevators, but true they do not stop anyone from going back and forth and not even for taking the elevator to the floors. I hope you understand that for such a big property this is not a feasible action. We do want our guests to be safe, but we do not want to encroach people's privacy or make them feel uncomfortable.
However we have agents also through the floors making sure safety is always preserved, and all our staff is very well trained in order to recognised suspicious people or activities and to take immediate appropriate action. If unusual activities take place inside the property, our agents will notice it and act, so there is nothing to worry about!

I wish to let all our guests know this, please feel free to come at the desk and speak to one of the Managers should you feel something is wrong, even inside the other guest rooms. Your feedback is always greatly appreciated and a huge help to mantain high level of service and high standard of security.

Thank you for all your attention, I hope we will have you back very soon!
Happy new year!

We stayed a few nights in the Grand Hyatt with our friends in December. On arriving to the hotel our friends were given a double room and we got a king room. After taking our luggage to the room we went to see our friends' room - and were astonished. Their room was almost twice as big as ours, and they had a nice view to the city compared to our view, which was the opposite wall! We went immediately to the reception to ask for a double room, and were lucky enough to get one. Especially if you pay the full price (which isn't advisable, by the way - use Priceline instead), don't be satisfied with a king room, when you could get a much bigger one for the same amount of money. In addition, the king rooms don't have a bath, only a shower. Due to a high floor, our room didn't have any kind of problem with the noise from the streets. The downsides of staying in a high floor are the elevators. There aren't enough of them for a hotel this size. Almost every time we had to wait for one, and on the way down they kept just stopping and stopping until they were crammed. Besides, our room was facing the elevators, and the noise woke us several times during the night.

The hotel lobby is very grandiose, but otherwise the hotel and the rooms are more low-keyed and stylish. There is a indoor connection to Grand Central Terminal, which is very convenient: you get to the subway station in a couple of minutes. Naturally the location of the hotel is very good, but since there are so many interesting places to see in New York, you won't manage without a Metrocard - at least we didn't.

Grand Hyatt is a relatively good hotel, but there are a few deficiencies, which a hotel of this standard shouldn't have. Firstly, there aren't coffee makers in the rooms. That might sound like a small failing, but we believe, that it's the small things that make the stay enjoyable. Secondly, Grand Hyatt charges extra for everything. In hotel lobbies the wireless internet connection should be free, but not in Grand Hyatt. Also the luggage storage sets you down a couple of dollars. Again, those are small amounts of money, but we think that these kind of things show, how much the hotel values their guests. Especially if the hotel is as expensive as Grand Hyatt, there should be some extra perks to cheer guests up. Thirdly, the young concierge clearly wasn't equal to his duties. He gave us inaccurate information of the airport transportation. He didn't know that the hotel had its own cars for the journey, and besides, he gave us a truly flawed estimate of the price of the cab ride. The hotel's transportation costs about $80, and is a good option, especially if you are travelling in a group and have lots of luggage.

My Sister and I stayed at this Hotel for her 40th Birthday, We e/mailed ahead to check if they had our booking and when we arrived thay had put 50 dollers on our room to spend in the hotel Ruth also got a birthday card and some Chocolatesdelivered to our room on the first night. We both liked this hotel as it is central to most things and Time Square is only 10 mins walk from the Hotel. Grand entral station was only next door and we used the subway most days from here. The room we got was one of the old room but it was still nice and was what we needed for our stay( who needs to be in a hotel room when in New York). I have read a few people were not happy with this hotel but we didn't have any problems at all. I would go back to this hotel again. Would just like to Thank Silvia and her Staff for making our stay in New York a brilliant one.
