“Good service, great location, good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2012

We had a double double room this past weekend. (2/24), We were very pleased. The room was clean, modern and quiet. Hotel is "New York small" but very adequate. Rooms were very clean. They offer a small lounge for guests including coffee and papers and TV. The 77th and
Broadway location is excellent. Subway nearby as are many stores and restaurants. The Fairway Grocery store is several blocks down. The hotel is on a side street so no noise. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Price (on a winter special) was excellent...compared to nearby On the Ave. and Lucerne. Would definitely recommend for a stay. Clientele was multinational, tending towards European.

We loved our stay at HB!! The front desk staff was very welcoming and helpful. We were surprised to find our room ready for us upon our arrival at 11:00 am. We were just planning to store our luggage until later in the day. The room was very nicely done, clean, modern design, internet and refrigerator. Nice products in the bathroom. The room got a bit warm at night but the radiator heat was adjustable. The front lobby is under renovation right now but there was no visible construction mess or noise. It was simply blocked off. There is a guest courtesy lounge room with coffee, tea, water, snacks, TV and computer. There is a great market around the corner with just about everything. So, it is convenient to be able to buy some drinks or snacks. There is a concierge at the front desk. The location of W 77th and Broadway was perfect for us to explore Central Park and museums in the area. Very pleasant area - everything we were interested in was within walking distance. We would recommend it. Also, since we were celebrating our 20th anniversary, they surprised us with a bottle of champagne in the room. Nice! So, this hotel was an affordable gem in my opinion.

Room Tip: It is a corner building. So, the rooms that face Broadway are probably on the noisy side. We had a...

This hotel is ideally situated on a side street in one of Manhattan's best neighborhoods. It's got small but cleverly appointed rooms with modern furniture and new amenities. It's a good-looking place with very friendly people at the front desk. There's a small fitness-center and an area on the first floor where coffee is available. The beds are comfortable. When we arrived the bathroom hadn't been cleaned adequately since the prior guest's departure. I notified the hotel staff, but nothing was done, so I had to call again to get this taken care of. When we departed two days later we found the people cleaning the room had thrown away a few of our possessions, which clearly were not garbage. All told, this is a good place for those who want to enjoy the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- Central and Riverside Parks, Lincoln Center, The Museum of Natural History, the Columbia University Campus, an array of great restaurants -- or venture across or downtown. The prices are reasonable, but guests should beware: the people who clean are not competent.

Room Tip: I didn't seen enough other rooms to advise adequately on this. Overall I think the rooms are sma...

The Belleclaire, right off of Broadway, has many features that make it great for a visit to NYC: location, small fridges in the room (not the minibar kind), a great workout room, and a great guest lounge with unlimited hot drinks, newspapers, snacks, bottled water, TV and internet access. There is also a terminal with airport info. An ice machine and a microwave for guest use round out the features that make the hotel ideal for those on a budget in NYC. The staff was very helpful and polite--and the rooms and hallways are clean, well-maintained and pleasantly decorated. Overall a great value and positive experience.

The Belleclaire was doing renovations to their lobby, so maybe that's why I got a room for $90 a night..unheard of in NY. My room was tiny, but had everything I needed, bed, desk, bath, wifi, TV, and even a fridge. Just enough room to walk around. It was overheated but I figured out how to turn off the radiator and opened a window and it was fine. My room was quiet and the bed was firm and comfortable. I loved the location because the subway was very close, as was the cross town bus which went right through central park near the Met and the Whitney. And there was a super amazing grocery store one block away, where I bought breakfast for my room and other great take-out food. Also near Zabri's, a famous kitchen store and deli. I could walk to the Lincoln Center. Staff were friendly.
