“A honeymoon every time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2012

This was our fourth trip (fifth if you include our wedding night 33 years ago) to The Plaza. Each visit is better than the previous one. On this trip we had a beautiful room.On the second day of our visit my husband realized that there was cigarette smoke coming through the vents. We called the front desk and a man came to check what was the problem and was going to attempt to clear out the air. He realized that that would be impossible and called the front desk who graciously changed our room to a magnificent suite. The butler showed up to our new room and while my husband and I went out to dinner he moved the rest of our things to the new room. We have always found everyone at The Plaza to be helpful and welcoming. We have certain requirements which were met without our having to ask after just making it known what we needed on the first trip. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a good location, luxury and a helpful staff.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade.

This hotel certainly lives up to its name, from watching Home Alone as a child I had always dreamed of staying here and it did not fail me. The decor is phenomenal the attention to detail with the plaza logo on every knob and tap was amazing.

Furthermore the staff were highly attentive with butlers on each floor attending to your every need.

Only criticism was the outlook from the room, as I was at the back of the building the view was very poor, other than that an experience like no other will certainly return.

Room Tip: A park view would have made this stay perfection

I had stayed at this hotel a while back before the renovations and I can honestly say that it is a practically different hotel: the rooms and furnishings are top notch and the service is great!
We had a beautiful room with a view of 58th st (?) with a king bed and a gorgeous marble bathroom with separate tub and shower.
The iPad controls for the room were a novelty, but the app to use the butler services did not work for our entire stay.
Room service breakfast was expensive but delicious. We did not eat at any. The other food outlets (try Sarabeth's on the same block facing central park).
Would defiantly return again.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are so pleased to hear that you were happy with your stay and the hotel post-renovation. We sincerely apologize for the technical difficulties you experienced with the iPad and hope that you were able to enjoy the Butler experience regardless. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Plaza on your next trip to New York.

the hotel has a great location, it's clean, has nice rooms and that's about it. the service was terrible! you dont expect that when paying so much (my family had 4 rooms 5 nights). the restaurant took for ever! and the food was nothing special. the concierges were too busy, some times it took 30 min before they could help. maybe it was the high season, but i will never go back...

The Plaza is so famous and such a NYC landmark that it's worth staying in at least once. I had been to the public spaces many times but never stayed there until this weekend. It was enjoyable and I'm glad I experienced it, but I will likely stay elsewhere in the future. The good: I had one of the quietest rooms I've ever had in NYC, and had wonderful night's sleep on a truly comfortable bed with lovely sheets, pillows, etc. Excellent. Even though it was billed as deluxe, it was pretty small, which is somewhat to be expected in NYC. The room was luxuriously appointed, especially the bathroom, which again is to be expected at these prices. The not so good - housekeeping was cleaning our room at 5 PM in the afternoon, much too late. There is not a good set up for lunch and dinner in the hotel, except for a new-ish Todd English "Foodhall" restaurant that is a dark and hot basement staffed by a surly staff - stay away. The champagne bar is fun for cocktails but closes fairly early leaving only the Rose bar which is a dark, strange place with the feel of maybe and old New Orleans bordello (or what I would imagine one would look like!) The concierge was charming and solicitous and the bell staff friendly and personable - every one of them! But the check out was somewhat chaotic and staff were unable to explain room charges. The lobby of the hotel is a very busy place so this is not the place to go for a quiet or personal experience, but it is a landmark after all, so you have to expect lots of people snapping photos, etc. A big part of the property has been converted to residences now, and perhaps that is where they are putting their attention, and it shows. Oh, the spa services were wonderful, as pricey as you might expect, but very good. The spa itself is very unusual, with a wine theme and a feel of a small lounge or wine bar as much as a spa. Overall, a fun experience but not my go-to hotel in the city.
