Mrs Scotto and her children that is; they never fail to deliver a just remarkable dining experience in the City. I started coming to this establishment when I worked at a law firm at 575 Madison, the corner of Madison Ave. and 57th ST., the center of the Universe as I liked to say. About 1993 or so. I used to come once a week with my Brazilian jazz musician friend Leo Gandelman, and all the Brazilian waiters would go wild. But really, it was the food being served that I would go wild about.Unlike a typical, even very good but typical red sauce and parmigiana palace, the recipes, the food, the friendliness, are all unique.Italian in origin, influence or technique, but unique. After my law partner and I won a jury trial in New York City, we went to Fresco to celebrate. Start with a vodka martini twice the normal size and the usually crowded but everybody makes room counter bar. Then Anthony, the senior son and man in the place, except for his Father, comes over and gives me a hug. He is so good at managing and picking food you see him on the Today show and he manages who can sell what at the new Yankees stadium. Then we have fritto misto, followed by a pasta dish special, followed by Salmon done their way. A fabulous red wine Anthony picked for us and, burp, dessert. All I can say is FABULOSO. If you are going somewhere to dinner in Manhattan, want a really good meal, and a warm friendly place, do not pass go or collect $200, go to E 52 between Madison and Park, South side of the street, have a huge cocktail and then a stupendous meal. If you have any culinary sense like me, you'll be back.
