“Great hotel for visiting New York City”
Reviewed 6 September 2012

Stayed at hotel for 4 nights while visiting NY City and US Open with family. The room was very nice and well laid out. Hallway was surprisingly narrow, but not a problem. I did not notice any outside noise (unlike some Manhatten hotels); however, air conditioning was a little noisy so we shut it off at night. Breakfast area was very good - much less crowded than the Hampton Inn north of Times Square. Subway was one block away - took us right to US Open site in Queens. Time Square is a 15 to 20 minute walk. I suggest requesting a room on lower floors so that you can walk down if elevators get busy. One elevator broke down for a short time while we we trying to get down to check out, but staff moved quickly to resolve the problem. I would definitely return here.

We arrived at the hotel early in the morning and requested a rollaway bed. The desk clerk signed us up on a clipboard to receive a rollaway bed. We were second on the list of names. Unfortunately when we came back to check into our room ALL six rollaways had been given out to other rooms. Needless to say we were very upset because that meant that the other person in my room had no bed to sleep on. We spoke to the manager and he was not understanding at all. We knew it was first come first serve and that's why we got there early before our rooms were even ready. We had to go to a sporting goods store and purchase an inflatable bed to put into the room. After several days a rollaway did become available but it was an aggravation to have to go out and purchase a bed and then drag it home on a plane. Other then that the room was fine and the location was excellent. Close to subways, buses and Sixth Ave. Plenty of dining and shopping nearby too.

Room Tip: The eight floor had a cool hallway but the ninth floor hallway was stuffy and hot. The ice machine w...

This hotel is in a great location in NYC and is quite reasonably priced. It is within walking distance to a number of landmarks/tourist attractions as well as the subway. There is a Walgreens around the corner and a number of restaurants quite close. It is also very easy to get cabs in front of the hotel so transportation is never an issue. This hotel is also off of a major street that is quite busy, so it was very safe, even late at night. This hotel is also a bit further from Times Square so it is not quite as busy with tourists during the day as the Times Square area is, whcih is nice if this isn't your first time to the city.

The hotel rooms are quite clean and well maintained. The front desk staff is also extremely helpful. I would like to mention that a front desk person named Elvin went above and beyond to make our stay more comfortable, and was excellent in recommending restaurants, and providing us with any info we needed.

The superior service of the front desk staff does not rub off on the management at thhis hotel though. Upon returning from a day of sightseeing, we arrived at our room to find the door had been left open by the housekeeper. This concerned us very much since our money/passports/jewelry was left in the hotel room. After ensuring our belongings were intact, we called down to the front desk to speak with a manager about this incident. The manager told us that the housekeeper went to get more towels for rooms on our floor, and that is why the door was left open. There was no housekeeper on our floor at the time, and it was well after they usually came during our stay. If the manager just apologized instead of trying to make up an unrealistic lie/excuse this wouldn't have been as much of an issue. If the manager wasn't lying, then their policy of leaving rooms open when staff leave the floor is even more appaling The manager did not even offer an apology.

Upon returning home I decided to try and contact Hilton to have this issue addressed. I emailed every day for over FIVE WEEKS trying to get a response, and I was ignored by the management of the property. The Hilton head office finally offered me a 2 night stay at any Hampton to make up for the open hotel room, and the fact that I was ignored for over a month by the management of the property.

This hotel is in a good location, offers good prices, and has very friendly and helpful hotel staff, but if there is ever an issue, DO NOT expect management to do anything about it or to contact you afterwards.

Considering the fact that the hotels in Manhattan are expensive, old and with tiny rooms, this hotel is a great option. The price is reasonable, the rooms are very confortable and the complimentary continental breakfast is good. The service is great, the staff is very friendly. The rooms are very clean, they change the sheets and duvet covers daily, as well as the towells. As I got a room in florr 17, there was no noise at all. I don't know about the lower levels. The location is great, one block away from the flatiron building and the subway station. Would come back without hesitating.

I knew that August in NYC was going to be pricey, which is one reason I settled for the Hampton Inn -- they have never let me down, and I needed to stay somewhere outside of Midtown, with two queen beds, and near public transport. My daughter and I spent two nights here, and it lived up to its reputation. The staff at the front desk were exceptionally kind and helpful. In fact, every time I had a question or a request they were able to come through. They even let me keep the room for a late check-out and accommodated us in the restaurant where we hung out with our bags before flight time. I appreciated having the computers and printer in the small lobby, as well as the accessibility to many nice shopping areas within a few blocks of the hotel. My only complaint was that our room did smell as though it once was a smoking room -- and perhaps this was one of the reasons why I wasn't enamored by the place.

Room Tip: I think the higher the floor you go the better. We were on something like the 28th floor and it was...
