Whilst holidaying in NYC last summer I spent a day wandering around the East Village and made sure to stop in at the Cakeshop for some good music, happy hour whiskey (5 til 7 I think) and people watching. They also serve coffee and cakes (obviously) and have live music. Definitely a cool place to check out one late afternoon/evening, and apparently its also known as a bit of a singles bar, so you might also find new friends there!
