We bought a two day hop on hop off pass which includes a night tour which was our highlight . They go every half hour from 6pm but go later for the great nightime views. We had a decent guide but found the hard sell for tips a bit wearing . We also did the hop on hop off tour - some buses had guides, some didn’t . They are a good way of getting around but subway is probably quicker and cheaper. From what we could see there wasn’t much to distinguish between the main sightseeing bus companies .

Thank CathS

Awful experience all around. Wait forever for buses, so crowded only downstairs space available in 100 degree temperature. Buses go out of service requiring waiting again for new bus. Live guides promised but only some buses have them. Save the money and aggravation!!!!

I'd done this tour maybe 15 years ago and enjoyed it. It's a nice way to cover a lot of ground in NYC in a 3-hour window. My wife and kids decided to give it a try. Our stay at the nearby Marriott Marquis included two tickets, so we purchased two more. It's billed as a hop-on, hop-off tour, but that doesn't happen a lot.

We headed over to 7th Ave to hop on, but the first bus filled up so we waited for the second. We were the first ones on, which was nice. And they said the wait would be 20-30 minutes, but it was more like 8 minutes. That was nice. We had no tour guide. They gave you some earbuds and you could plug them in and listen to a guide. This is fine in theory, but it was poorly timed. The guy would say, "up here at 23rd street..." meanwhile 23rd street was a few blocks behind us. And they cut out quite a bit too. On a few occasions it went to static. This wasn't a huge buzzkill for me, as I've been to NYC tons of times, but for someone from overseas or far away, I could see how the lousy audio on the earbuds would be a real negative.

On one hand I'd recommend this because it's cool sitting on the top deck cruising around Manhattan, but it's expensive and there is much room for improvement. My kids were sports for this, because I think they found it kind of monotonous and boring.

We were told this tour had real guides ! The sparse recording was , dull , inaccurate and repeated . For long stretches there was awful background music . Ticket sold as GOOD deal . Do not get combined ferry to Statue of Liberty . Much more expensive than form Ferry company . Where you still have to queue to replace ticket .

Couldn’t wait to get off . Where bus driver hopefully stood with tips container
