“Truly a leading world hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2012

We recently stayed at the Setai for a business/holiday trip and travelling with a 15 month old baby. I chose this hotel based on reading the previous reviews and got very good rates online for the basic suite room. In short, I was not disappointed from arrival to departure, the service was immaculate and warm and all things expected of a leading hotel. The room was extremely spacious by NYC standards and had all the mod cons one expected plus the complimentary wifi was great. The staff were professional yet warm, friendly, helpful and remembered us on each occasion so that was a nice touch. No issues staying with a toddler and they ensured the cot and room was ready for our arrival. Location is also good on 5th Avenue with a couple of nice restaurants nearby - Szechuan Kitchen nicely tucked away nearby. Would def recommend it. Don't even think about it, just book it and enjoy your home away from home in the Big Apple!

Stayed for 2 nights on business. All reviews here very accurate. Have stayed at Marriott Marquis, Renaissance Time Sq and Bryant Park but this blows them all out of the water. Now my hotel of choice in NY. Staff call you by name, rooms are gorgeous, location is terrific, bar is smart.

Room Tip: I had 906 overlooking 5th on the corner. Triple aspect. Perfect.

I stayed in the Setai, 5th Avenue/37th Street, for 3 nights. The reception lady was very nice and gave me a studio suite after quickly consulting with her manager. This was a beautiful room with very elegant and modern furnishing and very quiet out to the backyard. The air conditioning worked very well for heating as well. The bathroom was spacious and well designed, with a large bath tub and shower. The only strange thing was a very noisy heating system, surprising for such a modern hotel, but then all the old buildings in Manhattan are hardly up to our standard technically. The hotel had an Italian restaurant with a bar on the second floor, which was also where breakfast was served. The standard was OK here, by US standards definitely above average. There was also a bar next to the lobby with a view on to 5th Avenue, which serves snacks too (slightly overpriced, staff partly inexperienced in serving, e.g. no bread served with the foie gras etc.). The spa was good standard, with a jacuzzi and various treatments. Overall, I can strongly recommend this hotel, which is also perfectly located in central Manhattan.

Room Tip: studio suite very quiet and spacious

We arrived for a 6 day stay and were surprised that we were given 2 nights free and "upgraded" to a suite. When we woke up the next morning we knew why. The hotel had put us in a room right next to where construction was going on across the street. Now we get woken up every morning at 6am from the noise of drills.

The construction was NOT mentioned during checkout and they blatantly LIED about an upgrade. This was more a case of moving us into a suite no one else wanted and painting it as a free upgrade with 2 free nights.

Disgusting tactics and I will never stay here again.

I really love this hotel. When you walk in the door it smells like a spa. Its beautiful and luxurious. We were upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite which was truly amazing. The hotel is definitely one of the best I have stayed in. My only complaint is the service was really slow I had to call several times to get the ice I ordered and again for a problem with the bathroom. The spa is fantastic and the salon does a great job. The beds are heaven and the amenities in the room amazing. I will definitely be back.

Room Tip: The suites are amazing. If you are looking for luxury you can't go wrong.
