“Great Shown But Curb Your Enthusiasm”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

I went to see this show at the Lincoln Centre on the 14 February 2012. Prior to going I hadn't read the book or watched the movie as I was determined for the play to stand or fall on its on merits.

When judging the play it is best first of all its important to get the puppets out of the way. They are by far the biggest stars of the show and deservedly garnered the biggest ovations at the end. But saying that the play has to be more than just puppets and this is where I felt the play was let down.

The cast (apart from the horses) were merely adequate with the exception of David Lansbury playing Freidrich Muller who was very good but this was counter balanced by Alyssa Bresnaghan total forgettable performance of Rose Narracott which felt at any point in time would deteriorate into some form of slapstick.

The story itself although admirable, i felt contained too many characters which simply were not given a chance to develope the prime example being Billy Narracott who seem to be allowed to appear and die for no purpose other than to leave behind a knife which would inturn signify that he had died. The young french child likewise was brought into the play only to dissappear prior to the final resolution of the story.

All in all the play is worth seeing but it is a pity that too much time and attention has been given to the puppets and not enough in providing a taut storyline which should have brought out much more emotion in the audience.

“One of the wonders of the world”

Here the rich watch the worthy (musicians/dancers/singers) keep the Western tradition alive. An oasis of calm excellence. Even the people who show you to your seat look like they went to Julliard.

“Cultural Mecca - Tour is Great”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

Lincoln Center's 16 acre campus is like a small park.  Even if you don't go to a concert, this is a destination to see for its art and architecture.  We took a tour from their new visitor center called the Atrium and got to see the New York City Ballet rehearsing.  Great place to people watch.  Tour put it all in context.

“Great outdoor and indoor space!”

Amazing Chagall paintings inside, and a neat courtyard outside. The place to be during Fashion Week, too.
