We booked this hotel because of its location, near Times Square & the Subway. The room was kept very clean, although we seemed to get less clean towels left every day. Others have commented about the two lifts, well for 3 of our days there was only one. We had a note pushed under the door saying if we had been waiting for more than 15 minutes then to ring down to reception, & they would bring the lift up manually. In the event, we only ever waited about 5 minutes & never really had a problem. The breakfast seemed ok on day one but was pretty basic. OK for a piece of toast, a yogurt & a hot drink. If you want a typical American diner breakfast, then Westway Diner on 9th Ave. is good. Turn right out of the hotel, then right onto 9th Ave & it's several blocks up on the right. The staff were all very friendly & helpful, but we did have one issue. We wanted to see a show, & the concierge told us that Jersey Boys was a ' hot ticket ' & he could get us seats for $179.95 each. We asked if it was possible to get cheaper seats, but he said it was unlikely, as the brokers buy them up in advance. So we went with him. When we arrived at the theatre to collect the tickets they still had seats avaiable in the same area for $127 !! Perhaps we were too trusting, but felt ripped off for over $100 by someone that we thought worked for the hotel. He's independent - beware, always check the theatre for availabilty first.!!

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us and for choosing our hotel for your accommodation needs. We appreciate your feedback and willingness to discuss your stay with the Trip Advisor community. We do apologize that we failed to meet your expectations. Judging from your review, it seems we let you down regarding our housekeeping service, complimentary breakfast and concierge service. For this, we truly apologize for the negative experience. We pride ourselves on offering the most comfortable accommodations and outstanding service and are disappointed when we allow a guest to leave unsatisfied. Although you are welcome to stay wherever you feel comfortable, we would love to have you stay with us again so we can make things right. Until then, we wish you the absolute best.

We spent one night here in July. The location is very close to Times Square. The hotel was ok, the front desk staff were very nice and helpful. They are very helpful in storing your luggae if your room is not ready at checkin. The room itself was nothing great. I do realize that for $249 you don't always get a lot in the Times Square area. The room was older and dated. The bed was ok, but the mattress was wrapped in some sort of plastic cover and you could feel/hear it when moving around during the night. The breakfast was a disappointment. One of the reasons that I chose this over other chain hotels in the Times Square area was because of the breakfast that Holiday Inn Express usually serve. This was an exception. The pancake maker was out of order. There were no cinnamon rolls, when I asked the staff they told me that they have been out and would maybe have some the next day. They had been waiting for a shipment to be delivered for a couple of days. For the same money I would recommend staying next door at the Element hotel. Their breakfast is free and is excellent!

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We truly appreciate you choosing our hotel for your recent accommodation needs and hope that you enjoyed your time here in NYC. We apologize for failing to meet your expectations regarding your stay. We are committed to offering comfortable accommodations and friendly service and it seems we’ve let you down. The plastic cover you mentioned on your mattress is to protect the bed from potential bed bug outbreaks. Happily, we’ve never had any issues with bed bugs so we’re glad to see the plastic covers are working although we apologize if they caused you discomfort. We are truly disappointed that our complimentary breakfast service was not satisfactory to you. We strive to offer a variety of options and we regret that some of them were not available to you. We respect your choice to lodge wherever you see fit but hope that one day you will reconsider staying with us so we can prove that despite any challenges, we will rise to the occasion to ensure guest satisfaction. Thanks again for your feedback and we wish you only the best!

Sincerely,

Team Holiday Inn Express Times Square

We stayed at the hotel for four nights 6th - 10th of September this year and found it to be fine, good location and found the staff to be helpful and very pleasant especially Alex who helped us with so much e.g our return trip to the airport, our luggage and anything else we needed.( big thumbs up for Alex).
The breakfast was a bonus and equal to anything that you could buy on the street.
A couple of small niggles were that neither room had a bath plug and on one occaision one room had no clean towels delivered but no real problem and easily solved.
We would definately use this hotel again as the location was great.

Room was okay for what we needed however I've never experienced such small rooms in my life. There was also a very unorganised singing group of kids and the hotel staff had no respect moving them out of the way or anything we had to push through whilst seeing them just lazing at the desk. Next time I'll stay closer to times square or fork out for a good hotel

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you very much for staying with us and for taking the time to review your experience. We sincerely apologize for failing to meet your expectations regarding room size and lobby congestion. Although it is no secret that hotel rooms in NYC tend to be significantly smaller than those in less metropolitan cities, we understand that not all of our guests are aware of this when shopping for accommodations. Since we have a relatively small lobby, it can sometimes be difficult managing the crowds during peak hours. We want to be respectful of everyone’s right to relax in our lobby, but never at the cost of another guest’s comfort. We hope that you will reconsider staying with us again so you can see that our service will always exceed any challenges we may face. Thank you again and we sincerely hope to have you as our guest again in the future.

Sincerely,

Team Holiday Inn Express Times Square

I chose these Holiday Inn based on location, value and the reviews from Trip Advisor. Location and value were fine , there's no trick in both of them ! It's 5 to 10 minutes walking to Times Square, it's 3 minutes to Port Authority ( shopping mall ) with a 24 hour Duane Reade , and a few blocks thru 34th St to the Hudson River if you like jogging before sunset. Price is something that each one can compare, don't forget you have a well served free breakfast and complimetary internet access in the room. Add this in your math, you are going to NYC ! The staff has surprised us very positively many times during our 5 day stay, especially by getting us a room pretty early, as my wife and I brought our youngest kid, a six year old boy, straight from Brazil to JFK and to the hotel early in the morning. We got a room on the second floor with a nice street view, which was great so we could use stairways on busy hours, once elevators are small, few and have to go all the way to almost 40th floor. The room was pretty tight, my kid complained many times about it, though it was very clean and new. I probably wouldn't come back , not because of the hotel, but I understand I would spend some more dollars a day when staying in NYC. For the price we have paid, which is not inexpensive for 99% of the places in the US, I believe is as best located and dependable as you can get in Manhattan.

Room Tip: Lower floors are possible to get by stairway, otherwise you are stuck to wait a lot for elevators.
