If you only have one visit for a few hours you should make a plan. Egyptian, middle ages armour, American wing. Pick a few types of art you want to see and go through those sections. The Temple of Dendur (ancient Egyptian) is especially cool. But really you need a couple of multi-hour visits to get a good tour, and probably a weeks worth to really "do" the museum.

Brilliant collection but I didn't like the $25 recommended entrance fee. Seems exorbitant. You don't have to pay that but I felt not right not paying that but felt slightly bitter about it as London museums and galleries are free!

The museum is awesome. The Planetarium is a must go. The Space expo is nice, but kind of child stuff. The Butterfly expo is too hot. We stay there for less than 3 minutes.

We park our car on the Museum's garage and everything went well.

We messed up on this one. We thought we could finish it in a morning. BOY WERE WE WRONG!

The place is absolutely immaculate. We visited Washington DC and the Smithsonian museums last Spring and honestly, I don't remember even the Air and Space Museum being as big as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is simply enormous.

And filled with fantastic pieces from more contemporary works to artifacts from Ancient Greece. We are by no means connoisseurs of fine art and it would have taken us at least 3-4 hours to give everything the attention we wanted to. If you're a fan of art, I can't even think how long it would take you.

This is a MUST if you visit New York, and you MUST give yourself time. If you don't, you'll be kicking yourself over what you missed all the way home. I know I am.
