“Fantastic!”

This museum totally inspired and impressed me! I hadn't been there in years and saw so much wonderful art, furniture, gardens, from all over the world. It's truly international-- the best of the best. Go here! And don't forget that you only have to pay what you wish, anytime!

“Quite simply one of the greatest museums in the world”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2012

As an art historian who had written books on material in the museums's collections and runs a large website that contains thousand of documents on painting, sculpture, and the decorative arts, I remain blown away by the Met. It's astonishing. When I return to NYC, I tend to spend large parts of at least two days there and barely manage to see a few of my favorite works plus some of the numerous exhibitions they organize. Most visitors seem to go to the very crowed Egyptian and ancient Greek galleries, which are wonderful, as are those dedicated to nineteenth-century painting, so see those. But visit the elegant, sparsely attended Japanese and other Asian sections when you want to relax, savor a little calm quite away from the mobs. Best advice: take a look at the museum website and decide what you want to see since your eyes and concentration --much less your feet -- won't last more than a few hours. Venture into the African and modern sections, and furniture lovers and those who go antique hunting, don't miss the galleries of 17-18C furniture. At Christmas time, make sure you see the Christmas tree and nativity scene. Young boys have to see the arms and armor.
