The Brooklyn bridge is located in lower Manhattan and connects the island to Brooklyn. You can access the bridge from either side. If you are taking the subway you are looking for either the High Street station on the Brooklyn side or the City Hall station on the Manhattan side.

Walking across the bridge will give you a great view of the iconic Manhattan skyline as well as Liberty island. It gets very crowded on the bridge and technically the walkway is split with one side for pedestrians and the other for bicycles. Given the number of tourists, I was surprised we didn't see any collisions. People would regularly wander onto the bike part of the path. Do yourself a favour and don't rent a bike to cross the bridge. It didn't look fun. It took us about 25 mins to cross the bridge. Your time will vary with the number of people.

There are lots of opportunities for great pictures along the way so don't rush. The wind can pick up so dress appropriately.

Don't visit NL without walking the Brooklynn Bridge - the best view of the manhatten skyline and opportunity to walk off those NY bagels and pizza! You can always walk the bridge and take the subway back to Manhatten if you need to give your feet a rest. I would recommend walking from Manhatten TO Brooklyn and then stopping to take a photo from DUMBO. Some cute coffee shops in the DUMBO area and also a vintage carosel like the one in Central Park.

Okay this is one of the last functioning bridges that was not constructed with big machinery. There are vendors who try to sell you things and it is very busy, but I love looking at the architecture.

This was high on my list of "must dos" in New York, and definitely worth doing, despite the crowds! Not only is the bridge itself worth seeing just in itself, but the views of Manhattan are excellent and there are great photo opportunities. You can also see the Statue of Liberty from the Brooklyn end - get a photo with it and the Manhattan skyline in. Just be careful about bikes in the bike lane!

Amazing walk. Spectacular view. I suggest walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan and then go to Chinatown for a nice meal (if you like Chinese food) :)
