I was looking up places to eat while on travel and was in the mood for a good hamburger. I saw the pics on tripadvisor and I thought the pics were a four patty burger lol. I went there and realized these double cheeseburgers are absolutely huge!!!!!! They taste great, it's up there with in n out!!! The fries were awesome too, I highly recommend this place but come with an appetite!!

We absolutely loved Hodad's. We ate there as a family. It is certainly not your clean cut restaurant but wow has it got character and great food to boot. I echo the other reviewers a mini burger will be plenty for most. We had frings too. That is a portion of fries and rings easily big enough for 2-3 adults. We couldn't finish it. The Malts are amazing but huge. More dessert than drink. Staff friendly, efficient an cool! The area is a little dodgy. A lot of druggies and drunks around streets. So just be aware. Overall highly recommend

Get the guido. Bacon tastes better than heaven. One of the better burgers I had, had to rate it 4 versus 5 because buns were small for the burger, minor pet peeve, but can't give a 5.

My wife and I split in our rating of this place. She said everything, including her huge juicy hamburger, was excellent. I thought the food was very good but the service was terrible. The service was very indifferent as our server essentially asked us what we wanted and then disappeared until our order came up. We couldn't get anyone to stop to give us a refill on our drinks and when our food was ready, someone came out and essentially threw it at us on the table and walked off without a word. When I needed something else that did not come with the food, it took forever to get our server's attention (no one else would stop for us) and he gave us such an attitude when he helped us that I thought he was going to start yelling at us. While the food was very good, the noise level is not conducive to conversation and based on the service we received, I cannot recommend this place. There are other places in downtown San Diego to grab a bite that will treat you much better and have just as good if not better food.

Be forewarned, the burgers are HUGE! :) Go with the smaller burger, unless you are absolutely starving. Servers were friendly and helpful. Really well priced too!

There is always a line at this place, but it's worth it. I went on a Saturday night around 7pmish and there was only a short line of 2-3 small groups in front of me. Maybe a 20-30 min wait.

The walls are covered in license plates, which is pretty cool. You can easily kill time by trying to locate a certain state or see who can find the most licenses from one state.

Definitely recommend stopping by. The place seems to be in a sightly sketchy part of town (saw a lot of homeless, trash everywhere, reeked of urine unfortunately), so if you're not familiar/comfortable with the area, probably best to make sure you visit during daylight hours.
