Too many rocks, too much seaweed with too many flies. Great if you want to surf; not so much if you want to relax and read a book. Parking limited.

Staying here for the the Thanksgiving holiday and have a beach site next to the stairs. The weather is amazing and the sound and site of the surf breathtaking but for $50 it is really just like parking along PCH. The campground only has ocean side and Carlsbad Blvd side so there is no real camping feeling. It is nice that you can pull in diagonally and block out the street somewhat but not as nice as San Elijo. Still having a great time in great weather and some spectacular views.

It is never crowded other than weekends on a summer sunny day. At around 7 AM many a day I could be the only person walking in the beach excepting one or two others. You need to time your visit with the ebb tide then you get a lot of the beach.. It is also good for surfing. The waves are not to high, and one can learn to surf easily in Carlsbad.. There is lot of fun in playing beachball and making friends for a friendly game.

My son had booked our campsite months ahead to get a spot so if you want to camp here you need to plan ahead for sure. We were right on the ocean side and could hear the waves all night long...so peaceful to be lulled to sleep by. The bathrooms were individual, clean and well light. There were a number of step accesses to the beaches. The beaches were well maintained and not to crowded. Though the camping spots were close together there was brush between each spot so it felt somewhat private. We would return here for sure!

This is one of our favorite beaches to visit in this area. Of course living close to it helps. The picture shows it realistically and it is frequently not crowded. Good waves for surfing and boogie boarding. Smooth sand and warm sunshine, what more could you ask for?
