Here is gem of a spot especially on Fri night and Sunday brunch when you can hear homegrown soul and pop for no cover. You might want to join in too! Nice decor and layout and parking isn't too difficult but not easy either. Its worth it! Talk to them about the KFC lot after hours for parking

The restaurant is Cape Verdean which has a good emphasis on seafood. My favorite dish is pork shoulder with clams...(!?) yes its true!. BUT< and this is a big BUT --- they often substitute port medallions for the shoulder. Ask! and skip it if its medallions..so- so. The salmon with a killer sauce is great, as well as the cornish hen with clams.

Warning - they are heavy handed on the salt, which is a shame as its NOT NEEDED-- are you reading restaurant owners? Cut down on the salt....the food is great as it is.

BTW< get the chorizo appetizer. Its just a plain whole sausage but, it is by far, the best chorizo I have ever eaten anywhere....incredible. Perfectly made and prepared. I hope they don't change suppliers by the time you get there but if not you're in for a 9 dollar splurge treat. Hot but not too hot , tons of flavor, and has that homemade rough , not ground to a pulp type of fill. Super.

A reason for 4 not 5 is the service is spotty and uneven, somewhat unprofessional but well , folksy (?). also, we might have been upsold on the wine...seems the 25 dollar bottles are never there and we ended up with a 40. bottle. hmmm. When understaffed anything goes.

If you're from out of town, do yourself a favor, get away from the tourist trap areas, and see this place esp if there is live music. You won't forget it!

My husband and I first visited Laura's Restaurant for a cast party (Strand Theater is right up the street). There were all kinds of fabulous Cape Verdean foods offered buffet style and reasonably priced wine (all by the bottle, no single glasses) and a healthy, affordable pour of Captain Morgan's rum. Because of this sampling we made the 35-mile schlep from our home (ok, so we picked up our son at Logan first, only 7 miles from the restaurant) to have a full dinner. Laura Correira, owner with her husband, greeted us warmly and ushered us to a table set with white linens and a candle centerpiece. There were only a few other customers on a Friday night at 7:30, but the guitarist and Latin jazz vocalist were setting up and by the time we left at 9 pm the restaurant was half full and the music was lovely. Laura said they had a brand new chef, from Portugal, and the new menu (one page, hand written which Laura read to us), did not reflect Cape Verdean style foods as described on their web site. HOWEVER, Laura highly recommended two appetizers (shrimp and quail, each in fabulously tasty sauces), a paella style rice dish for two loaded with clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops and squid and a lovely light broth and a wonderful steak and mushroom plate, served with a side of lightly fried potatoes. Since we couldn't read the menu, we thought what the heck? and went with her recommendations. Food was FABULOUS! I just wish we had asked for some more green veggies. We ate until we were happily full, had left-over paella and didn't have room for dessert (it was a flan that night). All that, plus a bottle of wine, and a cappuccino came to only $99 before tax and tip! Service was very relaxed (we did have to ask twice for more water) and pleasant, and we'll definitely go back.

Laura's is the perfect restaurant to dine. The interior is charming, and inviting. The food is prepared with a hint of Cape Verdean flavor. Many nights they have live music.

The food cost is excellent, flavorful, priced reasonable and they have a wines selection which is very appropriate. If you're in doubt what to order or want that special bottle ask Laura or her husband for their recommend. Their suggestions are alwasy point on and you’ll be surprised how reasonably priced.

We go to Laura’s often; it is one of our favorite Boston restaurants
