One of the best tapas I have had outside of Spain. The Jamon Iberico was perfect, thinly sliced and delicious. I was disappointed that they didn´t have any gazpacho. Patatas Bravas were great. I asked if they had Boquerones since they were not on the menu and they appeared a couple of minutes later. A bit pricey but definitely worth a visit.

A few weeks ahead we made reservations at Curate - pronounced KOO-rah-tay. It is located in a downtown neighborhood. The area was full of local color. We visited Asheville Wine Market and City Bakery before getting to our 12:30 lunch time.

When making our reservation online, I requested wheelchair seating. When we arrived to a busy restaurant, our table was ready. The chairs on one side had already been removed and there was nothing behind me.

Curate bills themselves as a Spanish tapas bar. That’s all they do and a darn near perfect job of it. The menu here is extensive and there’s another menu of charcuterie, beverages and desserts.

We ordered a ham sampler properly billed as tabla de jamones. This included Serrano plus 3 levels of Iberico. The slicing station was in the room we were in. It was outstanding. We didn’t want it to end. After that we were served roasted piquillo peppers stuffed with goat cheese and blood sausage surrounded by onions and pine nuts plus a sherry vinegar glaze.

Very much in keeping, the wine list was all Spanish wines. We chose a Rioja Roasado. This crisp rosé had the body to balance our food selections.

Curate is a “don’t miss it” in Asheville. Reservations are highly recommended. Ask for a bar table.

My wife and I have never quite experienced an eatery like Curate. First, just getting reservations was difficult given the restaurant's popularity. But, once seated, the tapas dishes were divine. We ordered Bomba (grilled lamb wrapped in pureed potatoes and crusted w/panko), crema de calabaza (butternut squash soup w/candied pumpkin seeds), tortilla espanola (Spanish potato/onion omlet) and pemientos de pequillo rellenos (pequillo peppers stuffed with Spanish goat cheese). A-mazing!!

Our server was friendly and helpful. Curate (coo-rhat-tay) is a must-eat destination when you visit Asheville.

We go to Asheville a few times a year and we always make it a priority to stop at Curate. Every time we go and try other restaurants, or new restaurants, we always end up comparing them to our experience and food at Curate, and Curate just seems to always do it best!

This was an accidental discovery and we were very pleased. We tried several of the tapas and all were excellent. The service was okay and our waiter was pleasant. We thought he could have been a bit more attentive, as the restaurant was only moderately busy. We will definitely go back.
