We made our reservations based on reviews on Trip Advisor and the photos on the hotel website. Our room was on one of the two floors that have not been redone (the second and the third). The decor was reminiscent of an old Howard Johnson's or bad Super Eight. The bathroom, while cleanish, had obviously seen a lot of wear over the years. We were already disappointed at the value, then I overhead the rate quoted to a walk-up client for the weekend. It was $30 less than we had just paid during the week.

we were in california for 10 days, stayed three days in san francisco. out of the 5 hotels we stayed at this was the cheapest but the best for bed quality, pillows, quiet nights, remodeled room. we had two queen size beds. staff was friendly and helpful. bus stop right in front of the hotel, easy to get to union square where the action and shopping is. i would recommend this hotel. just don't go in june. it's very cold. june gloom as the californians call it.

we stayed at the 'newly renovated queen room' for three nights. we loved the design of the room with the funky orange :) room was just big enough for 2, great bathroom and flatscreen tv. free wireless internet available. location is perfect, just a few blocks from Union Square.

only downside is the staff, they don't even try to be friendly ..

conclusion: great budget hotel, we would stay here again!

If you plan to go to San Francisco you should really book the Vertigo, a wonderfully and tastefully newly renovated hotel just a few blocks from Union Square.
This hotel has definitely style, something unique. You get free tea and coffee in the morning and as many tips as you need from the staff of the hotel. You're a few steps from anywhere in San Francisco, and there are bike rentals and car rentals (Avis) just nearby.
