Our trip to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, an early autumn musical and cultural event in Golden Gate Park had been planned for a year. The musical offerings (and the droolworthy food truck cuisine) exceeded my expectations. But my visit to San Francisco was quantum enhanced by our three day stay at the Stanyan Park Hotel in the Haight Street district. I am a loving frequenter of restored and lovingly maintained historic hotels, and the Stanyan was a paragon of upscale Victorian style with modern comforts, amenities and service.
I wouldn't describe the concierge staff as friendly, rather urban crisp. But responsive and efficient beyond reproach. The continental breakfast service was not elaborate but everything was exceedingly fresh and a good value for the inclusive price of a room. And our charming "deluxe" room (actually their standard one) was beautifully appointed with reproduction antique furniture, a fully functional bathroom with period fixtures and lightning-fast internet connection. The bed was a magic carpet ride to the Land of Nod. A southerner, I was worried about the lack of air conditioning. How silly of me. The huge windows opened out perfectly and provided plenty of ventilation.
Thanks, Stanyan Park Hotel. I hope to see you same time next year.More
