My 5 year old daughter loves her afternoon tea, and this one was no exception. The shabby chic decor was really cute, and my daughter loved the hats that were available for sale there. I thought the actual food was mediocre, but I'd probably go back because the space is so cute. Read my full experience there on my personal blog:

I visited The Secret Garden with two tea-loving friends on a recent trip to San Francisco. First things first: this is a busy area and parking is difficult, so definitely allow extra time for that. Reservations are highly recommended. The space is small, and when we arrived we encountered an annoyed family who apparently thought they'd get a quick table as a walk-in (they left shortly after being told they would have to wait).

Afternoon tea is a favorite so that's what we did - 2 afternoon tea tiers split between 3 people with one extra scone. This ended up being just the right amount of food for our group. We ordered 2 teas, the Coconut Cream and the London Fog. Coconut was excellent and Fog was ok.

The sandwiches were exquisite. I cannot praise them highly enough. I was impressed by almost every single one, and we tried quite a few. The quality was so consistent that I even ventured toward a few things I wouldn't normally eat, and they were great!

The one thing I wasn't really crazy about was the decor. Lots of pink, lots of floral; overall a jumbled look. With the small space, I felt a more cohesive room design might enhance the experience. One cute touch is that they have a shelf full of fancy tea hats that patrons can wear while dining. Tea hats always enhance the fancy tea experience!

Value was what I expected. I would definitely go back, just for the sandwiches. Seems like a great place to bring kids.

I recently had an afternoon high tea with a friend at the Secret Garden Tea House in San Francisco. This charming little spot has been here on Lincoln Way in the Inner Sunset for 10 years, yet I've passed it many times without knowing. That's because the street it's on is a very busy artery taking commuters to their workplaces downtown and other places in the Bay Area. Inside you'll find a sweet, relaxing spot to enjoy a delicious variety of tea sandwiches and a few sweet offerings, along with your choice of a nice variety of teas and herbal infusions. The decor is bright and charming, with chintz curtains, floral tablecloths and pretty English-style china. I went there from curiosity, because I enjoy high tea, and because I had snagged a 2-for-1 coupon online. I'm so glad I did. At $21.95 per person without the coupon, this is still a bargain for traditional tea spots in the city. It's just around the corner from the busy Irving Street/Ninth Avenue shopping area, so it's very easy to get there by bus or streetcar, and is a lovely, relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
