Casa Loma is away from the hustle and bustle of downtown SF but is still on a pretty busy road, Fell St and if you get a room facing fell st it can be noisy with the traffic. The location is away from most of the attractions, this can be both good and bad. But for the same price what I get in downtown SF is really bad. Casa Loma is in a residential neighbourhood away from the not so nice part of town. Getting there with public transportation is not entirely convenient. Of course taxis make it really easy. If this hotel had ensuite bathrooms I would give it a five star rating for the price

We spent a few nights here as our first visit to San Fran and can't imagine having stayed anywhere else. Rooms were spacious and comfortable, great view from our window of San Fran, and mike was extremely helpful whenever we needed help with anything. But the best part is the location! Right on two bus lines, close to the supermarket, short walk to beautiful shops and cafes on Fillmore st. Perfect!

Difficult to review. Good value (for San Francisco) but has downsides.
When we arrived we walked straight into an argument over desposit which we were told on website we had paid but front desk said they never actuallly take desposits. Had to speak with booking site to resolve and ended saying that we would resolve on return to UK. So tired from UK flight that we gave up. Not a good start. Front desk had quite aggresive attitude
Having said that the rest of the stay (5 nights) was okay-ish, Liked the location (Haight area, quite bohemian, some amazing houses although Casa Loma could do with a big refurb!)
Room (upgrade) was okay but would have been great with just a little TLC. If the hotel could just change their attitude and become a hotel and not a hostel it could be great!
Easy to get to all attractions by using no 22 bus which was fun and easy. .

I cannot understand why this hotel gets pretty good reviews, as our stay was not pleasant at all.

Upon arrival, the guy in the 'lobby', although definitely not unfriendly, started talking money before we even closed the door. This did not make us feel very welcome.

There is no elevator (which was not a problem for us) and bathrooms are shared. The showers and toilets, however were very clean and functioning well.

The room was not at all pleasant. The whole hotel has a shabby athmosphere, it definitely has seen better times. Our room was very noisy, the carpet was full of stains, the bed was TINY and made a terrible crackling noise on the slightest movement. Pillows where thin and completely worn out. There weren't even proper sheets. There is no housekeeping (although this wasn't so much of a problem, but we would've liked to know up front).

The location was not bad but not great either. It is still quite far from the harbor, walking takes at least half an hour.

All in all, we did not had a pleasant stay and found this hotel poor value for our money.

Checked in here after a long day's driving from LA. First things first-parking is a nightmare. Get in early to get a park, is all I can say. Somehow we miraculously got one 2 blocks from the hotel.

First impressions-very nice. But don't expect a "hotel" per se for hostel prices. If you expect a hostel, you will be impressed. If you expect a hotel, you will be underwhelmed. We were expecting the former. Room was about the size you would expect for a standard private hostel room for 2. Only problem was that it was boiling hot-so we opened the window. Unfortunately it was incredibly loud. This basically meant that you couldn't really sleep past about 6am.

Shared amenities aren't as bad as they sound because they are really clean. Sinks in own rooms are a godsend-don't have to brush teeth in shared sinks. Overall, good place, but would try and get a non-street facing room if you want a good night's sleep!

Room Tip: Non-street facing rooms if possible!
