We stayed here 3 nights broken up into two separate stays. The first 2 nights they didn't have an "interior" room so we were given a room in the back with a side window that faced Fillmore St which you could see Lombard St from. We closed the window and curtain and the noise was muted and not a problem at all. It was a double double room which was very spacious and nicely arranged so that it felt quite spacious. The shower was wonderful with plenty of hot water. We paid the extra $5. per night for a mini fridge to keep our milk for our coffee and other beverages in. The neighborhood is as stated in other reviews here ... very nice, safe and wanting for nothing. In front of the hotel are buses going north towards the Golden Gate Bridge and environs. On Chestnut St., the street behind the hotel parallel to Lombard St., there are buses that will take you to Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown. The free parking was wonderful as neither my husband nor I wanted to drive so we parked the car in the indoor hotel parking and took buses, cable cars and street cars everywhere. The customer service was great and we would happily stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back.

My girlfriend and I stayed here to mark the halfway point of a two month roadtrip around the USA at the end of October, 2011, and picked it because of its location and relatively low price (compared to big hotels in the city).

Our room was decent - quite large with a big king bed and TV, and everything was cleaned well each day. The location is also good, being an easy walk to a few restaurants and a bus stop that takes you to most of the touristy areas. It's also just across the road from the famous Mel's Drive In diner!

However, the motel wasn't so good in the customer service department, and the WiFi barely worked at all. With the internet not working (we needed to research what to do and also the rest of our trip), we had to go downstairs to get help on this. They kept saying they would get back to us but never did, then I brought it up again and they called their service provider. I started talking to the manager and he was on the phone with the tech team but then had to answer another phone. Next, he started making gestures at me to answer a phone and start talking with the tech team about the WiFi problem - as if I should be sorting it out myself. I believe it was our last night of seven nights when the internet finally started working properly.

Overall, this motel is a good option to stay at when exploring San Fran (clean, nice rooms, good location), but just hope that you don't have to deal with anyone behind the desk because they have no idea when it comes to customer service.

Room Tip: The city view might be a bit noisy for some people.

Reservation attendant was very rude!! We tried to make a reservation for our family of 4 online. After all of the pertinent info was entered, the website said we could all stay in a King Suite. We called to confirm, but we were surprised by the reservation representative who asked us if we were all going to sleep in the same bed. He was very unprofessional and condescending. He never offered to help us with our dates. He obviously felt it was more important to insult us by our question. We have read many popular reviews for this particular location; however, the website is very confusing regarding the accommodations. Fortunately, we have a lot of family in the San Francisco area, so we are happy to stay with them. My mother is a travel agent and communicates with us about different properties throughout the US. In today's economic climate, it is important to value customer service. There is no excuse for this type of treatment.

This motel has free parking - a real bonus for San Francisco. Our room was huge, VERY clean, with 2 good sized comfy double beds. As mentioned in earlier reviews, traffic noise was quite loud from the road-facing window.
It was a reasonably long walk from fisherman's wharf. About 20 - 30 mins at a slow pace, though rates at this hotel are so cheap that's fair enough.
Staff were very helpful, even allowing us a late check out at no extra cost. Breakfast at Mel's over the road is a must.
All in all would highly recommend. Great value for money!

We decided to stay there after reading the good reviews. We were so disappointed. Lombard is a busy street. Our room was facing the street. When I asked the front desk if we can change rooms she said very rudely there would be a surcharge. We barely got any sleep the 2 nights we stayed there. My parents also stayed at the hotel and did not sleep because the room next door had their television blasted the whole night. They called the front desk who suggested my parents call the room. They did NOTHING to solve the problem. My in laws also stayed there and could not sleep due to the street noise. When they asked the front desk for a new room they received it with no surcharge. Positive side it was clean.
