Owner description: Since 1873, cable cars have run up and down the hilly city, though after the 1950s, these cars have been kept in operation more out of historic nostalgia. Seventeen miles of track remain and have been deemed a historical landmark.

“You've got to do it once...”

It was worth the money to travel the famous hilly streets of San Francisco. You can even hang out the sides of the tram There are some magical views along the way even though it only travels a couple of miles and the architecture is beautiful.
Not sure that I would do it again though As it was nearly $50 return for our family of 4.

“A Classic”

The best way to get around the city. Try the California line from Van Ness. It's not as crowded and more local.

“when in the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

If you are not a frequent visitor to the city on the bay this is a must do. The lines can be extensive but if you can get the seat at the very front or getting a standing position.

“Exciting”

Catch the cable cars at their starting point at Fisherman's Wharf and ride it up and down the streets to Market & Powell. Some of the street inclines are steep enough to give you the short thrill of riding a roller coaster. $6 one way for any enjoyable ride on something from the past.

“Unique transportation experience”

Get a one day or 3 day pass if you are staying in the downtown area. Conveniently brings you to many tourist sights.
