“Fantasticly taking theater!”
Reviewed 18 October 2011

We saw "Once in a Lifetime" and got very cheap tickets offered at 10$ at 2nd row at the highest balcony. This was a bit far away, so we moved to available seats in the stage floor (valued around 80$) for 2nd and 3rd part. The play was wonderful, funny and interesting, and we really got sucked into it! Go go go!

“Great play, great seats, great prices!”
Reviewed 28 July 2011

We saw Tales of the City and enjoyed it tremendously and recommend it for a night in San Francisco. ACT theater is a reliable source of top notch entertainment.

“Give it a miss!”
Reviewed 24 April 2011

I had pricey tickets for the matinee on will-call, but being from out of town, failed to reckon with horrific Sunday afternoon traffic. Unable to find parking, literally within miles, I missed the opening curtain. When I phoned the box office to request a seat at another performance I was rudely refused any accommodation whatever by a snotty, dismissive employee, even though he readily admitted there were many seats available for the very next performance!

These folks obviously do not appreciate or encourage out of town patronage. Give 'em a miss!

“Best Theater Experience in SF”
Reviewed 28 January 2007

A.C.T. is one of those SF things - if you're a local you know it's great, if you're not you'll probably miss the experience.

They do a combo of modern and non-contemporary shows, ranging from straight theater, to one-man (or one-woman) shows, to musicals. They also commission original works from time to time.

The acting is consistently good, and as long as you're not going on preview nights (when all the tightwads like to go), you've got a good chance on discounted standby or same-day half-price tickets. There isn't a bad seat in the house (that I've been in), including the last row seats on the faaaaaarrr corners.

Staging is always beautiful, directing excellent, and a consistently enjoyable experience.
