The hostel was standard, and the guests wide ranging, and the staff aware and friendly. The kitchen was suitable for meal preparation and friendly connection, and there was space in the common room for work or games. Smoking across the street isn't an issue, yet there are a couple folks in town clinging to the status quo buzzkill solved by only a mere slight discretion with spliffs amidst a climate of recent medical legalization and general favorability

Wailuku overall is pretty chill with a couple solid cafés (coffee attic lets you play guitars), a gas station with friendly workers and essentials a block away, and a Safeway within a mile. The buses are a good way to get to other parts of the island. It is definitely worth taking bus trips to other parts of the island for $4 round trip to see more of the nature, towns, and talk with more people

The relative warrior culture of Maui has beneath its slightly austere outer shell of an abrupt head nod of greeting an instant familial vibe and openness to those who make an effort to show their aloha (love and respect) to the community. Locals revere work, yet balance leisure at a moment's notice with deep present moment awareness and mellow. The people are more cosmopolitan despite having a stronger state identity than most places and therein identify as citizens of the earth... so go ahead and make some "aunties," "uncles," "grandmothers," and "grandfathers" if you like by keeping an open ear to the elders and enjoying the brotherly sisterly familiarity of an island paradise while getting in touch with the local distinct vibes in various towns

After a reservation at another spot was cancelled at almost the last minute, I found one room left at the hostel (a private room with shared bathroom). I reserved it without much thought, since my options were limited, but it was a good choice. As a solo woman traveller, I felt safe. Although the place was full, I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for the bathroom, and although I didn't use the shared kitchen, it appeared everyone was able to eat in a timely manner (pancake batter and eggs provided at breakfast time). My bed was very comfortable, and my room even had an air conditioner (which I did not need due to a wonderful ceiling fan). If you require luxurious accommodations, this is not it-- but if you are looking for a reasonably priced accommodation in a convenient location (near airport and walking distance to restaurants), this may be a good fit for you.

Room tip: Although my room was overlooking the street, noise was not a problem.

If you are those like me who don't like big resorts filled with people that would not hesitate to pay 30$ per breakfast (on top of the expensive price of the room), this is a place for you, if you want to stay around people that like to travel, visit places and share experiences, this is a place for you. The hostel is incredibly clean, even the bathrooms, that are cleaned every morning and the shared kitchen. Located in the center of Maui, we were able to visit the whole island with a rental car using the Hostel as central departure point. There is even time to do the worth doing 'Road to Hana' in one day, visit the falls at the end, and come back. The neighborhood is calm with several places to have lunch and dinner, not many close supermarkets, but in walking distance. I totally recommend it.

Like everybody says. Great location. close to amenities on north shore. Easy to get the bus to the mall, or into Lahaina and Kaanapali. Clean facility. Nice shared kitchen and lounge. Plentiful shower and washroom facilities. Friendly and helpful staff.
Glad I stayed there. would repeat. highly recommended.

Room tip: only stayed in one room. was very adequate

Great stay! The hostel is located not far from the airport, which is a good thing! The staff is friendly! Municipal parking is right next to the hostel. There is nothing bad to say about the hostel itself, the hostel is excellent, however, there is not much to do in Wailuku in general, and I would recommend to stay in Lahaina!
