After planning our trip to the island for some time, many different places landed on our to do while we are there list. This place was one of those places.
It is a small general store that has a little bit of everything, we decided to have our first crack at Musubi. It was different than expected but definitely glad to tried it. There are places to eat on either side of the store that looked great but we were not hungry at that time.

Olowalu General Store is a small store that is located next to Leoda's Pies, right off the highway as you are headed towards Lahaina.
There is a selection of souvenirs and miscellaneous items as well as packaged snacks and prepared foods to purchase.
It is an interesting experience.... The place feels as though it was caught in a time warp.... still stuck in the '40's or '50's, otherwise, not much to look at.

All the years we've been to Maui and we never stopped in here. I walked in while my husband was picking up sandwiches next door at Leoda's. Has a little bit of everything in this place. They had chocolate macadamia nut muffins that I had to try and they were wonderful.

Tasted freezer burnt and flavorless. Just another tourist trap in an otherwise beautiful place. I'd save my money and go elsewhere. At least its a pretty spot!

We stopped because of the colorful hand painted shave ice sign.

Interesting selection of local snacks and souvenirs that are worth checking out. And while they had some unique souvenirs, I couldn't find a decent postcard. The few cards I found were yellowed and dog eared.

It's like a revolving door of local surfers stopping in for hot dogs, but I wasn't brave enough to try one as they are served up by the cashier at the cashier's desk and it just didn't look all that sanitary.

Can't tell you what the prepared cooked food was like because there was nothing left by the afternoon. I'm hoping that's a good sign that there was nothing left because the food pictures in the reviews look good.

The shave ice, while large in size and priced well, was borderline snow cone. The quality of the syrups were regrettably indistinguishable in flavor. Not sure how often they come up to wipe the outside tables or empty the trash, but I'm thinking not often enough because the tables were sticky with shave ice drippings and the trash was full.

Still, it's worth a stop for nostalgia sake and to support a local, family-owned store.

Hands down, this is the best shaved ice in Maui and anywhere else. We tried shaved ice in Lahaina, the Road to Hana, the Maui Swap Meet, etc. The shaved ice at this place is huge for $5.00 and the taste is awesome. There are tons of flavors to choose from too. If you love good shaved ice, this is the place for you.

We sought a respite from the tedium of bumper to bumper traffic from the airport to Kaanapali and my wife fondly remembered the shave ice at Olowalu General Store. We decided to stop in. The store has a good selection of foods and drinks, as well as freshly scooped ice cream, and, of course, the shave ice. We picked a pineapple guava combo, took it outside to a table and dove in. It was, um, just okay. The pineapple tasted good, but the guava was too subtle. And, about every third bite had no syrup but was plain ice. It looked pretty but didn't really deliver on the taste. Maybe I had too high of expectations.

We came into this store out of curiosity because there were many fruit vendors next to it. We were impressed to find so many food products to buy, but more importantly the large shave ice section. They offered many varieties and the staff were very friendly. We ordered different flavors blended together. They were really good with generous sizes just as shave should be. :-) The location is ideal as it is right off the scenic road so it is an easy quick stop. It is also a great place to stop before or after you visit the Olowalu Petroglyphs.

The general store is right next to Leoda's on the road to Lahaina. Typical old style mom and pops general store. We picked up some spam Musubi and a bunch of home made chicharon (pork rinds). They also had hot dogs and other hot foods but we weren't that hungry. The Musubi were tasty but a little small. The big winner was the chicharon. Way better than the bagged ones you get at the grocery store. I ate one bag while on our flight back home.

Lots of different things in the store. Local made products, souvenirs, shave ice, hot food, fishing supplies and water toys to name just a few. Great stop on the way to the beach or on the way back. There's some outdoor seating as well and lots of parking on both sides of the store.
