The Room:

The room had everything we needed. Though it was located in the middle of the property, walking to the beach wasn't too long of a walk (and we have a 4 month old infant. Furniture and appliances were all up to date and the room was clean upon arrival.
Side note... There was construction outside our room for the first 2 days of our visit. One day, we were asked to shut off the A/C so that they could work and for pretty much 2 days straight, they were jack hammering outside. BUT- the rental company responded swiftly to my complaint. They searched for rooms that we could switch to (but we didn't want to waste a good chunk of out holiday moving). They then ensured that the construction would cease for our stay and gave us a nice discount on those two days. They could not have worked harder to make sure that this was rectified.

Location:
As noted earlier, the property is not far from the beach, however it did seem longer then it looked in pictures.

The Pool:
We only visited the East pool and it was very good. It was petite but had more than enough room for the few people that may be in it at any given time. It was usually just us at the pool. We experienced no problems with the local residents.

Overall:
Very good. We will likely stay here again.

We have stayed at this condo during numerous trips to Maui. Because we have 3 teens, we are always looking for accommodation with 3 bedrooms - not so easy to find. The 2 bedrooms with a loft work very well. Most of the 2 bdrm units have converted the loft to an additional bedroom. But do make sure to ask before renting.
This property is very family friendly, with a huge expanse of lawn, 2 separate pools and a tennis court. Some units have been renovated, and some have not. The only negative thing we have ever experienced is that a few of the elderly owners are not too happy having kids make noise and splash in the pool - but they are in the minority and most people are super friendly.

Room Tip: One bedroom units are on the bottom floor. 2 bedroom units are on the 2 or 3rd floors. Some 2 bedrooms have lofts as well.

We visited Maui for 10 nights and stayed at Hale Kamaole. We had a two bedroom and den, two bathroom condo. It had a great view of the pool and was well as the ocean. Its a quick walk to the beach - just cross South Kihei Road! It's one of the least expensive places for the area. It has a good location not far from Wailea and you can walk to a few shops and restaurants without it being too busy.

We have stayed at the Hale Kamaole on 3 different occasions. This time we rented unit 127 off of VRBO. It was by far the nicest unit we have stayed in. All units are individually owned so there is a wide difference in the décor and condition of each unit. We usually travel with two other families so, I have been in plenty of other units over the years and I would wager that it maybe the nicest unit in the complex. It even had an air conditioning unit in the living room (most other units only have A/C in the bedrooms). The only thing it was lacking was an ocean view.

We stayed in the one bedroom condo for 9 days. My husband and two elementary aged children had plenty of room and the remolded kitchen lay- out of the condo made the unit extra spacious. We never felt crowed even on the evenings it was our turn to make dinner for the friends we were vacationing with.

The property is well maintained, family friendly, across the street from a beach (with lifeguard services), walking distance to restaurants and short drive to beautiful Wailea.
I have already recommended Hale Kamaole, unit 127 to friends looking for a one bed room condo in South Maui.
We will be renting this unit again next time we stay in Kihei…

I stayed here for a week.... Here is some advice... Ask for condo 216... Here is why:

*Condo #216 was fully renovated (brand new kitchen and bathroom) in July of 2011, and we were lucky enough to be the first people to stay here. They didn't cut corners... brand new appliances with granite counter tops... very cool tile in the bathroom... it was like staying in a brand new place.

*Flat screen TV (not HD, but who cares) with what appeared to be a little more than basic cable.

*Free plug in high speed Internet.... we were able to get wireless off of a unsecured neighbor's wi-fi too.

*A very comfortable sofa that turned to a pullout bed (we never used the pullout)

*They have a decent bed... I have trouble sleeping on cheap mattresses... they have a nice king sized bed that left me pain free... Similar to what you would expect in a Westin!

*The owner put together a little "how to" guide with advice on everything from how to run the new appliances, what to clean them with to where is a good local place to get some food. All owners might do this, but it was personalized and a nice touch.

*Even though it is remodeled, it will be the same price as every other place... and some haven't been remodeled since they were built in the 70's.... So do yourself a favor and request 216.

*It is on the second floor. While the first floor would give a second way to access the bbq and pool area, I felt much more secure about leaving my sliding glass door open on the second floor.

*The built in Washer/ Dryer are a must.... the Maui climate makes a big guy go through clothes very quickly and it was awesome to be able to do our own laundry.

*We were a "late arrival" (Thanks United Airlines) and did the late check in... basically were given instructions on how to get the keys out of a drop box....With the keys came instructions to go check in... While we did check in, but a few days later..... and when we checked in, we noticed a 10% off coupon for Foodland... where we just spent nearly 350.00.... So, check in properly and look over all the fliers and coupons they give you... it's not all junk!

*The BBQ area has 4 charcoal bbq's that turns to a nice area to meet people and talk about the area in the evenings. The condo staff does an excellent job cleaning the bbq's every day. Before buying charcoal, check under the bbq's... Lots of people (us included) buy to much charcoal and can't take it home... so I noticed several abandoned bags under the bbq's that could have been used instead of buying your own.

So, if you choose Hale Kamole, be sure to ask for 216... you will be glad you did!
