Kalamas used to be located at Kahului Harbour for 3+ years, until the end of February, when Leslie, the owner (to my knowledge) moved it to its new location in the Wailuku Industrial Park...yes you read that right...scenic view? Indeed, from the seating/tables she has set up in front you get a great view of the traffic on Hookahi St. the main drag thru the Ind Park...

so anyhow this location is around the corner from my biz and within spitting distance of probably 100 other business locations...

hadn't ever been to her Harbour spot, but was hungry yesterday and it was by far the most convenient and quickest place to get any sort of decent food...some of my co-workers had gotten lunch from her the day before and I saw the plates and was won over without tasting..

so down I went...later afternoon, Leslie was on phone taking a big lunch order for the next day so I had plenty of time to peruse the rather extensive menu (esp for a food truck) she has at the least 15 'plate lunch' style offerings...(note; she didn't ignore me while on the phone she did acknowledge me several times...always a good sign)

I opted for the panko crusted furikaki mahi with spicy aioli, 2 scoop rice and mac salad, which if you've been to Hawaii Nei you know is standard fare on any real plate lunch...asked if I could get the dish sans the panko as I'm G F and sure thing not a problem was the reply...told her one scoop rice nuff and hold the mac salad...she dropped the B word...Brown Rice...lol...and I said oh in that case I'll take the two scoops...

well...let me tell you...the lunch was some ono...broke da mouth all ova...perfectly cooked mahi, just spicy enuf aioli, and instead of the mac salad she gave me a green one, which was tasty baby spinach leaves, with grape tomato and a sort of Thai sweet chili dressing...pretty high class fare and presentation for a food truck...

all plate lunches come with beverage...be it bottled water or soda or iced tea, I went for the water...not a soda drinker...the plate was 10 bucks...you'd pay up to twice that at any sit down place in Central Maui...

went back today and got lunch for 3 of my co-workers and the bill was 32$ as I got them a piece of carrot cake plus the lunches...

easy to find location...minutes from her old location...I think you could order anything off her menu and not be disappointed and she is easy with requests...

tell your friends...

Aloha from a very green Maui Island...

I have driven by kalamas for some time but i've never stopped to try them out. Yesterday I did and was very happy that I did! They had a great menu. So many choices. Fish. Shrimp. Steaks chicken and even deserts. I would have been happy with any choice but figured id ask the lady running the lunch wagon what she recomends. She told me her best seller was panko crusted fish. So I went for that. All I can say is that it was awesome! I am tempted to say the best fish I ever tasted! Fresh. Fullb of flavor and they dont skimp on portions. It was huge! Came with rice and mac salad and some amazing sauce. And not only that. It includes a free soda. What a surprise! Great food. Great service. Great price. I will be back for sure!
