We had a great day exploring the south shore. Came here for a visit and pit stop to view the spouting horn and it was ok. It was not busy here today so the views were great.

It may be impressive in particular wind and tide conditions, but during our visit the "spouting horn" was somewhere between "virtually undetectable" and "nonexistent."

It's a beautiful spot, though, and the lava beach is worth a look. There's a small craft market that some will enjoy.

The best part, for me, was the vintage phone booth at the edge of the parking lot.

Although the spout was visible during low tide, I'm sure it's much more awesome during high tide. Check the tide schedules before you go.

It was 22 years ago we visited this same location and it hasn't changed much. The Spouting horn is still working along with the little ones around it, the bathrooms look the same with red dirt everywhere (i mean everywhere) , and the vendors are still poised eagerly to sell you some trinket.
Now it was a beautiful day and we made our way south just for the drive and while the horn is no different than many others you will find along coastlines, it is here in Hawaii. If you take the time to walk around, study carefully the water as turtles were seen here. Bring some binoculars. We saw whales off in the distance splashing. This is a great photo opportunity of course, so be sure to get one well timed with the water. You may have to wait some time on calm seas for it to happen, so blustery days are excellent to see it, but hard to stay out there long.
Plenty of parking and take the time to read the information placards.

The sights and sounds of this natural wonder definitely make it worth seeing. There's also a neat little market on-site, as well as bathrooms, for those for whom that's important. Plan on about 30 minutes for this stop.
