We went for a late snack at 3:30, and it was still quite busy. People constantly going in and out. The Saimin was good, though unless you are a really small eater/child, you should order a medium size one. Barbecue chicken was grilled nice but the sauce on the salty side. Side order won ton was nice and crispy. Be prepared with cash only. A nice nostalgic stop on Kauai.

It was walking distance from the Kaua`i Palms Hotel. We already knew about it and our taxi driver recommended it too. DO ask for at least one slice of the (lili ---?) pie

This is an off-the-beaten-path locals' place. We have eaten here twice this week. Seating is on benches & stools (no back support). The shrimp saimen is excellent. Medium size bowl with three large battered, deep fried shrimp and noodles for $9.75. More shrimp can be added (2 pieces for $2.50). The chicken or beef yakitori skewers go well as an accompaniment. This is as close to authentic Japanese shrimp soba that I have had since we lived in Tokyo. Tempura soba in Japan comes generally with deep fried battered shrimp & veggies; here, they provide only the shrimp.

The pie is very light chiffon....a huge piece...large enough for two.

This restaurant goes back to the days of my parents. It is actually an informal sit down restaurant in a building, not a "stand". It does not have the most comfortable seating and it can be crowded and there can be a wait, but if you would like a hot bowl of traditional noodles at a reasonable price this is the place to go. It is near the airport, so if the airline food doesn't do it for you, just head on over to Hamura Saimin on the way to or from the airport. We ate here three times in eight days (always for lunch) since Hamura is about halfway between both ends of the freeway and we were always going back and forth opposite ends of the island to sitesee. Seating is often communal, but a good way to meet others. Also try the lilikoi pie - tart and sweet and full of flavor. Food is also available to go.
