“Nice location, tired hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2012

This was the first of our two hotels on Kauai. Friends have a timeshare at this property and asked us to join them. The location is really fabulous -- right on the ocean -- but it's clear this is an old hotel. The mattresses were not comfortable and the pillow are flat and old. This place could use a refresh. Our next stop was the Westin and there's no comparison.

The property is huge and you can get a good run in all on property. Be sure that you realize that the map provided by the front desk is only of the property. I didn't -- and can be directionally challenged -- and ended up running 7.5 miles on the highway. Erf. The next run was all on property and MUCH nicer!

Room Tip: If you can get a room right on the beach, it's really rather fabulous. The views from the upper...

This is a VERY nice resort, right on great beach. The only reason I did not rate excellent is that the food and drink prices are very high. Hint: go to nearby ABC store and get snacks, waters etc, just around the corner.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, resort was very clean and a good place to get R&R, great beach with many chairs on grass area on beach.

Kauai is a great island for the true island experience, not a lot of hotels and tourists. If you are going for nightlife, there is none. This is a great island for a laid-back vacation.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the pool are great, you can see pool area, beach and the cruise ships that com...

The Marriott Kauai is one of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed at. The pool is very scenic and quite relaxing. The food is great and service is outstanding. The walk to the lobby is and adventure, and the parking is quite a walk, but if you want to relax, this is the place to stay.

We spent 3 nights here, from March 6-9, 2012. We spent 9 previous nights on Oahu and Maui. This was a very disappointing ending to an otherwise spectacular vacation. When we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki Beach, we had a wonderful greeting and great customer service. Then we went to the Grand Wailea Hotel on Maui and had a FABULOUS stay. The staff was amazing and truly showed the aloha spirit.

We were supposed to spend 5 nights on Kauai at the Marriott, but because of the torrential rains the weeks before our arrival, we changed our plans and spent 2 extra nights in Maui. It was the BEST decision we made.

When we drove up to the Marriott on Kauai, no one even bothered to acknowledge our arrival, and that was at the valet stand. We then wandered around for a few minutes trying to find the lobby and registration desk. I finally asked the valet where it was, because he was not being helpful at all. We finally got to the lobby, only to wait in line to check in for about 15 minutes. We were early, so I understood when they told us the room was not ready, but they told us it was guranteed at 4:00 pm. When we went back at 4:15, we were told it would be another 45 minutes before the room was ready. We finally got into our room at 5:30. They told us the carpet was wet by the deck doors and that there was a fan up in our room to dry it. The carpet WAS soaking wet, but it was by the side of the bed, the farthest point from the patio door. And they did NOT have a fan running in the room. We finally got one late the next day, and it still was not dry by the time we checked out.

My husband and I took out 2 beach chairs to put on the beach...imagine that, and we were RUDELY told that the beach chairs were not to be put on the beach! No one informed us of this the day before when we spent the entire day out there.

The only saving grace for this hotel is the view. That was gorgeous.

I will NEVER stay in this hotel again. It was stuck in the 1970's with the decor, and way before that with the attitudes. I have to say I was most concerned with this hotel before we departed for our vacation, and my instincts were correct. I have never visited Kauai before, and I am not sure I need to go back.

My only complaint is that there weren't enough palm tree-strung hammocks with which one would lie in to take in the beautiful scenery and wonderful ocean breeze. The pool, room and restaurant were all clean. The laid-back service made us feel at ease - no one bothered us at all. The fish pond inside the hotel is unforgettable and made us feel like kids again. Will come back to stay again!
