We really loved Kapa'a Sands! The unit was clean, smallish but plenty of room for us. We really loved the patio, and having our own little stretch of beach was great too. We even had a monk seal conk out directly in front of us! They blocked off the beach so people wouldn't mess with him, but we had a great view.

In addition to being a great unit (calm, relaxing, clean, etc.) we really liked the location. It was a quick walk to plenty of restaurants (Korean, Japanese, pizza, etc.) and even a bar with live music (Trees Lounge).

We didn't actually get the particular unit we had reserved (I think we had reserved 9 and got 14 instead due to renovations), but it worked out well anyway.

Room Tip: We were in #14, and it was great. Definitely spring for a oceanfront unit.

We stayed at Kapaa Sands (in Unit 22) for 6 days, and, while it was eventually a pleasant experience, it was not without some kinks. The most pressing issue was the noise, which, as we were staying in an oceanview unit, was considerable. You can only hear it in the second bedroom, but it was so bad we had to shut the windows every night, use earplugs, and the noise machine I brought for my toddler. The second bedroom, also, is TINY, which made a tight fit for me and my husband, and the double bed was so short his legs (he's 5'10'') hung over the edge. The master bedroom, where my mom and baby stayed, was really nice, though. The unit's furnishings were fine, if not spectacular, but the chain for our fan broke and we had to unscrew a part each night to adjust it.

We found the staff generally nice and accommodating, although the laundry hours (9-5) were a slight nuisance because it meant that you had to plan your day around washing your clothes. The kitchen was fully stocked-- so stocked, in fact, that we had nowhere to put the pantry staples and things that we had brought with us, and had to leave them scattered all over the counter.

The location is excellent, though, and I would strongly but not definitely consider returning again.

We had a few ants, and saw a single, large and very dead roach. It happens.

I am writing this review in response to a few bad reviews written by folks who seem to confuse this place with a $600 dollar a night resort. We stayed a few days in both #6 and #9. For $150 a day we enjoyed a great on the ocean view that was exactly as billed. Both condos were clean and comfortable, though we prefered the upstairs of #9 for privacy and sound. The staff were just great and acomidating in all regards If you want to stay on the East side as a place to base out of, Kapaa Sands in most excelent. If you are looking for a high end resort, go north to St Regi$.

We were in unit 12. There are 22 units total, which gives a very private and quiet feeling to the whole place. We traveled with 3 other couples so we were able to see other units as well as number 12. There were variations in furnishings as each condo is individually owned, but generally all were similar. The bed was comfortable. The kitchen was well furnished with pots, pans, and utensils, microwave, range, coffee maker, blender and an emergency kit of candles and matches. Cable t.v., 20 inch LCD. There was a roomy closet and safe. The bathrooms seemed to be an afterthought. They were adequate except for the shower wand which would not stay affixed in the 10 cent holder. Also it would be my guess that the wand would be too high for anyone shorter than 5 foot 2 inches. The grounds are nice with many flowering plants. There is a pool which is good for a dip but too small for lap swimming. The immediate beach at low tide was about 4 feet of coarse sand adjoining a rocky ledge that was usually submerged under a few inches of water. Most of the North Shore beaches are “short”, ours was shorter than most, but the lawn was lush and only 5 feet above the ocean. Although we never saw the housekeeping staff our unit was meticulously cleaned every day. Sharon, the office manager was a true gem, informed, informative, and very business like. It was a great place to stay if you want to do most of your own cooking and do not want the huge resort experience with the crowds and clatter.

We stayed in condo number 4 which was on the ground floor and offered magnificent views out to sea. The room was clean with bedding changed on a regular basis. Though the condo was not large, especially if you left the bed down in the day, it was ample for the week we stayed. The kitchen was well provided for with all cutlery pans dishes etc. The overall complex seemed well maintained and infact while we were there windows and doors on the condos were being replaced. Breakfast on the patio watching the sunrise is definitely recommended. You might even get to see the hump back whales playing as they swim bye, a memory you will not forget. There are local shops just opposite the Kapaa sands complex but if you need a supermarket then a short drive will find the shops. The Kauai Island is beautiful lush and green with plenty to see and do. You’ll find this place very very relaxing, definitely recommended.
