We did the 5-hour tour. If you're looking for a catamaran trip that's a little more unique, you'll enjoy Catamaran Kahanu. A father & son run a smaller boat, with typically less than 20 guests. You get some good history and narration of the islands and sights as you sail up to the north coast to tie up at a sheltered spot for lunch and a snorkel. We saw a pod of porpoises on the way up, and the kids are encouraged to lay down on the netting up in the bow to reach out and try to interact with them. They're playful creatures that love to look at you, and leap into the air, so that was a real highlight. If you're lucky you'll see whales (we didn't, but another couple in our hotel did) and we saw a turtle at the reef. What's really neat is that the captain actually treats you to some up close looks at the caves carved out of the lava by wave action. His smaller boat can actually back right into one, which you can't do on a larger cat! It was a fun experience, and much more personal. The son was a great tour guide, spending time talking with everyone while the captain is sitting up top. I definitely recommend this trip! Howard N., Calgary, Alberta.
