“Don't hesitate. Book it now!”

The tips for writing a review suggest starting with the location. The perfect place to start. Let's call the location an adventure. Trust the process. Follow the detailed directions carefully. You will be thinking all the way that "this can't be right" -- but it is. The last couple of turns on a single lane dirt road with vines creeping all around you foreshadow what is to come. The isolation, the vegetation, the accommodation -- everything about this place is to die for. How often are you meet at the foot of the entry steps of a rental home with an avocado tree bursting with ripe avocados? The owners have thought of everything . The short kayak to the beech is worth the trip all in itself. The beech is the kind of isolated place that you read about in books on Hawaii and never can find -- this one is mostly all yours to explore. The hikes are great. We only stayed four nights and we did not begin to exhaust even the places to cozy up and eat dinner. Did we mention the avocados? We would go back in a heartbeat! Mahalo!!!!

“Beyond expectations”

The rental pictures do not do this property justice. It is truly a tropical paradise! The lush greenery and stream behind the house are indescribable. Actual banana trees and papaya! Others that I didn't recognize since their fruit was not in season! Putting the kayak in the lagoon and paddling to the bay was my favorite. I was not prepared for the beauty that appeared around the bend. We were there 2 weeks with several days just there at our own secluded paradise. However we did have a bad experience in that while out discovering another part of the island the house was broken into and we lost several item to thieves. I would recommend the owners put a combination safe mounted in the closet like condo units have. So stay here enjoy! Just leave valuables at home.

“We had a lovely time!”

First, let me say that I agree with everything in the previous review.

I would emphasize the afternoon heat factor.. we're Texans and it was too hot for us!...we just learned to spend the afternoons at the beach, in the lagoon or off on other adventures. As soon as the sun goes behind the ridgeline west of the valley, the temperature cools off quickly and evenings are comfortable.

This was the only place we rented during our entire Hawaiian adventure where we just stayed 'at home' an entire day and relaxed. We picked up groceries at the Safeway in Kapa'a [GET the CARD--it's worth it!!!!] the night before, spent most of the day at the beach, paddled around in the lagoon taking pictures in the afternoon and spent a beautiful starry evening out on the back deck. A perfect day.

While the entire area is (currently*) fairly secluded and the small cluster of properties which this home is in at the end of the dirt portion of the road is even more so, sounds travel quite a distance on the cool night air through the open windows. One neighbor was slightly annoying a couple of times and let me just say that our other neighbor was inspirational!!!!

*We were scanning some Kauai 'property for sale' type magazines and it seems that there is a plan to add quite a large addition to the number of homes at Moloa'a beach. This has the potential to change the entire character of the area---so I would highly recommend booking this place now or in the near future while you can still experience the feeling of having your own private beach!

I have already recommended this 'treehouse' to my friends considering a Kauai trip and would LOVE to be able to make a return trip myself someday.

“Absolutely magical.”

My boyfriend and I were traveling to Kauai for the first time, and our goal was to find a secluded, yet convenient location, where we could have a genuine experience of living on the island. Hotels can be wonderful, but I never really feel at home there. Our experience with owner Linda Summers was fantastic right from the beginning. Prior to our trip she offered great insight on some of the sight seeing plans we were preparing, as well as insider knowledge of other areas to explore.

The rental is about a 30-minute drive from the airport. We rented a 4-wheel-drive Jeep Wrangler, and we're glad we did, as getting to the home was quite an adventure! The home is tucked away in a residential area along a winding, rugged dirt road. It's a little intimidating the first time through, but by day two, we were completely used to it.

The photos of the home posted by the owner are very accurate to what you'll expect. The house is on stilts, and the back of the home (where the bedroom is) faces the lagoon. This was by far my favorite aspect of the house and location. There is a decent-sized patio that looks out over the canopy, and on clear nights, you could see the milky way. The area is teeming with melodies from native birds during the day, and frogs during the night - it reminded me of the jungles of Costa Rica. Free-roaming roosters are prevalent across the island and will wake you up around 6 a.m. every morning, but somehow that didn't bother either of us - it's all part of the experience!

There is no air conditioning, which could definitely be an issue for some, but we just planned accordingly. Shutting all the doors, and pulling down the blinds during the day will keep a majority of the heat out, and by late evening, the house cools down pretty well. There are ceiling fans and portable fans that they provide, which we used at night to keep us comfortable. The time of year you travel out there is a big factor as well - we went in late October.

The home was equipped with everything we could possibly need: snorkels and masks, beach chairs, towels, backpacks and tote bags, coolers, swimming noodles, umbrellas, tandem kayak, etc. They provide a fully equipped kitchen with common accessories (zip lock bags, Tupperware containers, etc.), and they had a wonderful outdoor grill that we cooked dinner on nightly. There was an avocado tree in the front yard that provided us with HUGE, delicious avocados throughout the stay. We stocked up the kitchen with groceries on our first night and ate-in most of the trip.

We took the kayak down the stream, which connects to Moloaa Bay, and had fun dodging a few overgrown trees. Moloaa Beach is pretty darn secluded - we maybe saw four other couples walk the beach in a two-hour period.

So overall, here's the breakdown of what we considered the property's best features:
- very remote and quiet (minus the roosters!)
- helpful owners
- convenient to east and north shore
- short distance to/from the airport
- fully-equipped home
- great outdoor patio
- gas grill
- proximity to the beach

Here is what could be an issue for some:
- no air conditioning
- rugged dirt road to the property. Best to get an SUV or 4-wheel-drive vehicle.
- at least a 90-min. drive to the far south shore
- little, if no cell phone service
- itty-bitty television (this was funny when trying to watch a college football game)
- no pool or jacuzzi

I'm a frequent traveler, and I have to say that this was one of the most memorable trips so far. If you don't require much pampering, this little cottage on stilts is a wonderful getaway. I will surely stay here again on our next visit.

“Enjoyable Place in a Nice Location”

First the good: very good location within 100 meters to a beautiful beach that has snorkling and swimming, secluded location with a river and lush vegitation, nice deck and peace and quiet (aside from the wild life), the house is fully equipped, and there are beach towels, snorkles, boogieboards, beach chairs and umbrellas etc, matresses was great.

The bad: very poor dirt road leading to the property, the place needs an interior renovation (mainly new carpet, new TV and furniture), and the wildlife is loud especially around 6 am on, there are no weekly rates so longer term rental is somewhat steep, no AC (but the weather cools down in the evenings and sleeping is very pleasant, pillows were cheap and uncomfortable.

Overall I would rate it as "Good" and recommend this place as being off the beaten path, offering seclusion from the crowds, and a somewhat nice amenities. It is a decent value at $150 per night given the high property values in the area.
